ok so just wanted to say that with .netroller's bios mod for the aspire 6920G i got the 9600m GT working sweet. Now i read on here that theres a 240m going around too?? Will this work with the 6920G?

I have plans to make an additional cooling setup although at present my gfx hits 62 celsius at full load and cpu (T7500 using TS to lock Dual-IDA to 2.4ghz) is lucky to get above 40 degrees so temps are not an issue at all. (i have undervolted cpu a little but within intel' specs for it). Ambient temp is 20-25 celsius & idle temps are 0-8 degrees processor (i have TS logs to prove) GFX is 41/42 degrees.

Any other ideas for upgrades at all? Im willing to try anything providing it isnt going to break the bank while doing it lol.

OH and just so people know i am selling my 9500M GS 512mb DDR2 MXM-II card, fully working with latest Acer bios.

Adding more content since i last posted...

Like i said, i currently have an acer 5630zg. it comes with a 9300m gs gpu, that i want to upgrade. However, i don't know the gpus that i can successfully upgrade into. I've read this topic and others, i was looking at the 9600m gt, but i've seen a sig of someone with a 5720zg with an gt 230m.
I'm not into upgrading laptops at all, it's just that my 9300m gs is srsly lacking the power needed to play what i play atm. Only found out yesterday that i could switch the gpu, so if i can upgrade it, the better.
I know i could upgrade the cpu as well, but atm i'm prioritizing the gpu.

    In regards, WarBringerPT

I searched for the service manual to check out if your laptop has an MXM slot but I can't find it. If you want to be sure if you can replace your GPU with anything stronger you need to open it up and take some pictures of it. The 9300m GS is an MXM-I card and it might be the latest mxm I card made as far as i know.

Well, it does have an mxm slot, since i can take off the gpu. Did it last saturday while cleaning and puttin on new thermal paste on the cpu and gpu. That was why i began searching for upgrades ( if i can take ff the gpu, that means i can put something more powerfull). However, dunno if it's mxm-I or mxm-II slot. I'll take pictures of it still today.
If it's a mxm-II slot, what could be the best upgrade for this laptop? what what kind of gpus could be used?

Well the slot of an MXM-I and MXM-II machine do look the same but an MXM-II card is bigger thus need more room and other mounting holes. The best is to go with DDR3 512mb or 1gb. But I don't know if those cards are supported.

That's MXM Type I, but there appears to be enough space for a Type II card. The cooler is also clearly equipped for MXM-II.

so what kind of gpu could i buy to upgrade my laptop? what's the best gpu to fit in here(in terms of compatibility and perfomance)? can a 230m gt fit in? or the 9600m gt?

It seems that you can fit an MXM-II in there as they use the same mounting holes ( i did not know ;P ) an 230m gt will need some soldering before it works. An asus 240m gt should work out of the box and an 9600m GT DDR3 will probably also work.

It will give you a big boost in performance ;)

I just ordered my 240m gt from asusparts.fr €91 incl shipping from france to the netherlands.

The GT 240M you found is Type A. You need Type II.

If you go for the 9600M GT, get the DDR3 version. It is both faster and more compatible (apparently) than the DDR2 one.

oh, didnt know that. The ones i'm seeing on ebay look all the same, with that slot type, and dont tell the specifics of the slot... anyone know a place where one can buy 1? Dunno if the 240m gt fits (havent seen the mxm type 2 yet), so i'll keep searching for more info. Don't want to buy something from ebay and then find out i can't use it.

Portugal. But i haven't ordered it yet, still looking for another places with a smaller number... and i haven't seen a real pic of the gpu in mxm-2 format, to see if it can fit.
I'm more inclined to buy a 9600m gt, because that one i know it fits.

edit: guess i found a website of the 240m gt in mxm-2 format:

    http://www.mini-laptop-accessories....-gt-240m-1gb-ddr3-mxm-ii-vga-card-p-8355.html

Dunno if it's that gpu, but if it is, it will fit.
That price is retarded, but i guess gpus for laptops are kinda rare...
Will give it a day of thought if i'm going to buy from asusparts.fr or not.

So I've finally got hold of an 8600m GT and tried to flash the 5920G_MXM_V3.WPH bios with a crisisdisk on a flash drive and phlash16 v1.6.9.5 but get an error when it starts the actual flashing(Undefined error number 4096). So what now?

Try a newer Phlash16. Or try flashing with WinPhlash.

However, you don't need a flash for installing a 8600M GT - it is only needed for GeForce 9-series cards.

Flashing is basically putting the right BIOS on the graphics card. It's really no big deal to do so if done right ;-)

    hallo guys.

I own Acer 5920 with geforce 8600M gs installed.

can one of u experts clear a few facts for me before i do something stupid:
    if i order this card M60J VGA_BD./AS WO/HY_SLI part number: 60-NTSVG1000-A11
is it "plug an play" or does it require MB modifications?
a bios upgrade??? my bios ver. is 1.3811 (newest v. is 13?)
do i have to do some other modifications since the card is from Asus?

There are just too many pages to read them all - i figured so much as that it fits into my laptop and everything else is just blur to me :)))

    Hi Guys,
    I have an 8935g, originally with HD 4670m, and a p8700
I bought a new 6770m, installed it, and cannot get a display from it! It is recognised and windows installs drivers, but as soon as it switches over to the 6770, it blanks out the internal display (windows is still running in the background) it also does not display on an external monitor.
Thinking that it may need another vbios, I got atiflash (atiwinflash didn't recognise the card) made a boot disk, and when I try to read the vbios, it can't find it then either!
Do you guys have any ideas? Do I need a modded acer bios? I'm tearing my hair out here!
Are there any other cards I could use? I've heard of people trying 5870ms (although they are B cards)
    Thanks

Hi, yes bought it from the bay but seller had 1000s feedback, and it was sold as fully tested. I can see the 6770m in device manager, but as soon as the drivers are fully installed and the machine "switches" over to the 6770m from the Intel graphics, the display goes blank (and doesn't show a picture with a monitor connected either)

    Helo experts
I have an aspire 7738g,at the very first page of this thread it shows someone who has updated his graphics card from a nvidia gt 240m to a radeon HD 4670. Now what interests me is that on his CPU-Z picture he has also upgraded his cpu from an intel dual core duo T6600 to a Quad core Q9000.What i would like to know is was this a straight forward exchange of cpu or was there some more technology wizardry involved. If it was a complicated process is it possible then to just upgrade any dual core cpu in the 45 chipset family to this acer jm70 motherboard. Thanks in advance for any help

Its not too complicated a process, but it may or may not work. I think it depends on the motherboard revision. You can go for a q9200 if you want. You can also get a 6770m for the GPU. Just make sure you have a 120 watt power adapter.

I use this website, though i don't know if the tests are done with ddr2 or ddr3.

PassMark Software - Video Card Benchmarks - Video Card Look Up

Ignore the 4570, that was 1 of the cards i was looking for.

And i'm interested again on the 240m gt of that website, just need a few more info about it and then maybe i'll order it.

Could someone help me on my way? I've read through this thread and searched google, but I'm still a little bit confused.

I have an Acer Aspire 7720G. My 9500M GS died on me and I'm looking to buy either a new 9500M GS or a 9600M GT. My questions are:

    1) I found different 9600M GT versions on ebay. G96-630-A1 vs C1, ddr2 vs ddr3. Will all of these work? I know I need to avoid ES-builds, but most ebay pages don't say anything about ES...

The only sub 100€ card I found was a DDR3 MXM II G96-630-A1. But I've seen people state that the C1 version is a lot better than the A1. I've also seen someone say the A1 version doesn't work as an upgrade! And I've also seen people state that A1 vs C1 doesn't matter at all.

Some sellers sell the (seemingly) the same 9600M GT DDR3 twice, with different supported laptop models listed:
    http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/Acer-As...er_Computer_Graphikkarten&hash=item4ab7da81a5
    vs
    http://www.benl.ebay.be/itm/Acer-As...er_Computer_Graphikkarten&hash=item4ab7da8194

So the same card, but different supported laptops. I thought they were all MxM-2 type cards that should fit regardless. Colour me confused!

    2) Most people seem to have gotten their cards to work using modified drivers form laptopvideo2go, but every now and then I spotted a thread talking about flashing the vBIOS or even the Acer BIOS to the black version.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/575866-acer-mxm-bios-mods-discussion-x920g-vs-9600m-gt.html

Will I need to do this? Or should the card work just fine after I insert it and change the drivers?

    Anything else I'm missing?

No need to hack anything for the 7720G, any 9600M GT will work out of the box (though a BIOS mod may be needed to use the DVI and S-Video connectors).

    @TehSuigi

The 6770M (fitted to the Mac's) seems to be MXM type A

Will this fit? does it take the GTS 250M's crown? (or probably just on-par looking at specs)

They fit but they do not work on the built in laptop display. They are much more powerful than the gts 250m.

Has anyone tried or found a way to mod the bios chip on one of these toshiba gpu's? Toshiba N11P 1GB DDR3 Laptop VGA Graphic Card LS-5005P K000092390 | eBay
i have heard these don't have a bios but there is a way to mod it. I've been searching and reading for days to figure this out. I was just about to buy M60J VGA_BD./AS WO/HY_SLI part number: 60-NTSVG1000-A11 When I found out it doesnt have the bios chip either... i am going to put it in my 5720g but i want to be sure its going to work before I waste money on my old laptop.

Please someone let me know if they are found a FAQ or something on modding those toshiba VBIOS on that first card link. or If i am wrong about that asus card and it will drop in without hassel. i want gt240m/gt330m performance. I have heard they are the same chip just higher clocks on the 330m. Please someone let me know!! Thanks very much!
Sorry for posting this in 2 different threads but i'm just not sure which of the 2 will help me most.
