I have an Acer Aspire 3000 notebook and it overheats very quickly. I've heard about notebook coolers but I have no clue as to what I'm looking for.
If anyone could recommend a brand and possibly give an indication to how much a decent one would cost that would be great.
    Thanks :D

depending on how much you wish to spend, you want one that's probably powered by a USB port and has as big a fan as is possible (bigger fan means more air moved at lower noise ratio).

the Zalman ZM1000 (15.4" or less notebooks) or the ZM2000 (17" notebooks) are two high quality units.

one thing I have noticed is finding one that you can easily match up to your laptop intakes on the bottom helps tremendously. we bought a Targus something-a-rather. it's a POS (fan blade broke after about a month of use) and it's noisy, very noisy...but, when we dropped the laptop on it, not much of an affect on the cooling. we moved the laptop around and when the fan started forcing air directly into the intakes on the bottom, temperatures dropped 10°C instantly!

Before spending money on something like that, you may wish to check that the fans working. It may be that it's full of dust (simple fix) or that the fan is sticking on the fan casing (usual fault). this is simple to fix. Simply bend the metal around the fanoutwards with a pair of pliers so that it spins easily without catching. Hope this helps
