I have tested the battery on another system it works no problems at all.

It will load up POST which obviously involves no use of hard drive or operating system. I can keep it on bios for 2hrs no issues or in command prompt for 2 hours no issues.

Now here i where the problem is.

The momeny it sees the Windows logo, the hard drive shuts itself down, and the Laptop switches itself off.

On AC Power it loads up and my computer works no problem.

I have removed the CMOS battery, reinstalled Windows. My warranty is well past its date, I aint paying £120 quid for them to point the obvious if their is one.

Does anyone know what the problem could be

so you're saying that even with a fresh installation of windows you still can't get to Windows Desktop?

Have you tried without the battery (I'm not tolking about the CMOS battery but the main one)?

No i can load windows no problem without the battery, and it works sweet, but I want to be mobile I am a filmmaker and i need to digitize stuff with battery only but when the computer loads with battery it will run on battery no problem within the Bios or command prompt but the moment it starts to load up a working Windows it will shut itself down.

Everything works fine with AC Power but messes up with just battery

Have you checked if there is a BIOS upgrade for your laptop?

Some Acer One had problems with their batteries. This problem was fixed with a BIOS upgrade. Please try to test with your friend's battery first.

Have you run it on AC Power and looked or tried altering the battery power management settings in control panel?

It's possible your computer is peak pulling too much power on startup and overloading the battery.

What happens if you start the computer with AC and Battery and then pull out the AC? If it turns off, it's possible that your computer or some component (possibly an external device?) is just pulling too much power from the battery.

OH and download an updated BIOS if you have not already.

I am not sure What Storm effect is suggesting - I have a sneaking suspicion he has read the symptoms the wrong way round but do please confirm.

From what you have said so far I believe the BIOS is reporting incorrect ACPI information on battery state to Windows at start up (i.e. battery empty or failed) resulting in windows shutting down as soon as the ACPI driver loads and senses the reported state. I am blaming the BIOS because you say you have reinstalled windows and because the battery is clearly able to report valid information to another system.

Reloading the current or an updated BIOS may resolve this. Making sure the battery connections on the laptop are clean and not bent may also be worthwhile. As windows is shutting down when you insert the battery it is going to be worth searching event manager for any clues or famous last words - especially if the system is fully loaded and idle at desktop when you put the battery in.

Finally it may possibly be a power supply issue if the inserted battery is flat. I just doubt this as power to start up with no battery is generally greater than power to charge a battery at system idle. I am guessing that the batery charges ok when inserted and charged with the laptop off which would then rule rule charging current out.
