Hello,
I recently just reformatted my laptop with the included recovery partition. I am currently running Vista (computer specs will be on the bottom), and the only game I'm really concerned with is Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, which for all those who don't know, is a 2001 game that wasn't very demanding of specs at that time, either.
Nevertheless, I seem to run into two problems.
1) Erratic FPS. I find that I'm doing about 80-110fps on average, but every few minutes I get spikes of extremely low FPS (20-40), no skip. I find this odd, seeing as how although my graphics card isn't exceptionally amazing for gaming, my laptop is pretty damn new, and I'd think that a nearly seven-year-old game shouldn't cause many problems. These spikes of low FPS are enough to affect my gameplay, so I'm particularly worried about this.
2) CD-ROM keeps reading the CD in the middle of gameplay. This has never been a problem previously, but lately it keeps happening--for all those who don't know Diablo II, unlike StarCraft and Warcraft, you are typically able to pop out the CD after loading the game and not have problems. I am, however, having problems with this. My computer never, ever had to read the CD in the middle of the game, and never gave me a complaint about not having the CD in. Now it does, and whenever it does try to read the CD, the gameplay will literally pause. The first this has happened was after reformatting.
Anyways, one problem I seemed to run into during/after reformat was the installation of Acer's programs. The first time I boot the computer after using the recovery, it attempts to install a slew of Acer programs, the final of which (Acer eRecovery) never, ever finishes, and I've attempted recovery three times. I always end up uninstalling the Acer programs and removing the directory with Unlocker so the problem does not persist, as if I do not do so, it will attempt to install eRecovery after every startup. I searched this problem on Google and it seems like I'm not the only one with it--I don't think this makes much of a difference.
Computer specs:
Acer Aspire 5100-5728
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56 (1.8 GHz, 2x 512KB L2 cache)
ATI Radeon Xpress 1100 IGP
120 GB HDD
1 GB DDR2
Thanks in advance for any help!
