Hey guys how are you liking this laptop? Just got mine yesterday and love it so far!
-
Is it just my laptop or does anyone notice that the airvents on the CPU fan (right side) shoot out less air than the GPU fan (left side)? The back vents shoot out equal air. The same thing occurs regardless if I'm playing a game, or if I have nothing opened at all.

can't figure out how to delete this thread. returned this machine and got a corsair i165 instead lol

Is this thread dead where can I find a owners forum for this laptop

Ok... I'll post my comments here rather than start a new thread.
I have the 2080/9750H version of this laptop. Its $2500 at MicroCenter.
I've had many awesome DTR laptops like the original Titan SLI and the GT83VR and Tornado, big Clevos, GT75, Aorus X9.
This is 1.65" tall. Pretty much uniformly so it's not fat at one end and slimmer at the other.
I see why many reviewers trash this laptop. I'ts heavy like the other big boys and the fans can go loud....doesn't mean they do.
Stock Paste..-100mv undervolt on CPU gives a constant 4.0GHZ clock with about 57c temps.
Auto fans, very low. So low that it's prob 30% speed.
Pressing the button for Max speed (like the reviewers do) reduces temps near 50c
If one had the 9980HK version it appears there would be ample headroom to approach 5GHZ on all 6 cores.
The bios allows XTU or Throttlestop to raise the power limit to whatever you want.
Although Intel allows a clock increase of 4 Bins on the 9750H cpu...Acer hasn't unlocked that yet.
ANYONE EVER MAKES A BIOS FOR THIS LET ME KNOW
The GPU is capped at 180w. I know the GE75 is capped at 150w and I assume both the Alienware 51M and GT76 are 200w.
I don't know how the Helios can match or beat those laptops as the scores seem to indicate. NotebookCheck has a score of over 27000 Graphics Firestrike with the 9750H....I can imagine how a 4.8GHZ overclock would help that score.
The GPU is just cool. 60c or less. Very hard to get higher than that. Even with the keyboard in the closed position the temps are very close to that.
This is the best cooling I've ever seen. The GT75 with 1080 was my previous best cooler. The Aorus x9, Alienware R4, Tornado F5, Titans..they all had to have fans ramped up and they got hot.
The fan control is kind of neat. The setting I use is Auto with a tweak. So you can adjust up or down an auto curve and it does the math for you. I can game AAA title and hear my laptop cooler louder than the laptop itself. ( I always use a cooler..actually its built into my desk...so the motherboard etc has a breeze.)
So ya, Big Heavy, plastic ..nice plastic.. like the GT83VR. If you've had one of those thats some tough well made stuff. Helios is a cooling monster. I guess that's probably all it does really well.
The screen has a great contrast while it isn't as bright as I'd wish. But I like it.
One thing that is neat is if you use your DTR on a desk most of the time..you probably reach for the keyboard alot and it's annoying just to press a button or two { if you're using a monitor)
With this badboy you just slide the keyboard forward, use your mouse, and you don't need a separate keyboard to be in front of your laptop.
Prob no-one will read this or buy the Helios 700. It will be at the very top till probably next January when the 3080 chips might come out. All the max-q's will come out and match or almost match the performance on this and there will be 120hz 4k screens everywhere.
But for the next year or so....
(seems the niche type laptops come out at least 6 months after the initial new graphics card release. My personal goal is to hold on to this for a year and a half and then pick from the top few DTR's)Mythbuster likes this. -

Don’t see many posts here. Loving my Helios 700 and just scored over 29K GPU score in firestrike! By the far the coolest and throttle free running laptop I have used

The AUO329D was the better option for a bezelled 144hz panel and they went with the AUO319D.
Best gpu performance ive ever seen though. -

Maybe you got a dud panel? The 319D I have is not too bad. These panels can have some massive variation. I’ve seen the CMN175C panel in one unit go to 400 Nits while another model with the same panel only hit 340 nits with a yellow tint and terrible colors -

Scores even higher with the latest drivers and bios. Looks like they increased the TDP somehow on the 2080 in this machine. I’m suddenly keeping way higher clocks and a 7C increase in temps. Amazing boost

Hi HaloGod2012,
I just bought this laptop, are there any particular changes and tweaks to settings you suggest to attain a Firestrike scores like yours?
Unfortunately my graphics score hovers around the 25000 mark. The only difference in specs I can see, are that my model is 16gb of ram.
Do you use predator sense or afterburner for your overclocks? Open to any suggestions, I just want to get the most out of my Helios 700. Doesn't seem to be much talk about optimisations online.Last edited: Apr 30, 2020HaloGod2012 likes this. -

I disabled overclocking through sense and only use afterburner. My overclocks are +150 on the core and I can go up to +1200 on the memory. Make sure you are on high performance in windows and that your keyboard is slid open during benching and gaming. Sliding it open unlocks more TDP for the 2080. Have the latest bios from acer (1.10) and the latest drivers from nvidia or GeForce experience. You should be hitting 27 to 30k for the graphics score and 17K plus for physics if you have the 9750H. -
Okay trying some of that now, Thanks.
Tell me though have you ever encountered an annoying humming/whirring sound? related to the fans I think when they hit a certain speed, usually around the 1400 rpm mark. It comes from around the fans and loudest underneath the gorilla glass in the middle area and its driving me nuts no matter the position of my laptop. It comes and goes as the fan fluctuate. Not so much as there running slow or fast its right in the middle when it begins whirring and producing a bizarre hum. I stick headphones on or raise the volume of my speakers to counter the noise of this laptop. Great thermals, mad loud fans and my possibly unique mad humming. -

I forgot where the setting is, but you can disable overclock settings when opening and closing the keyboard. And in gaming I have a fan profile that puts both cpu and GPU at 1500 rpms, because I hate fluctuating fans. 1500rpm for both cpu and GPU is good enough for thermals in gaming. I just set one of the predator profile keyboard keys to handle the change from auto to manual fan when getting into a game. Much quieter than auto and no fan noises from fluctuating speeds. Also, I use intel XTU for undervolting
did you Get a better benchmark score now?
