You saw (not seen) it where? Link? I can't find it on Acers site anywhere. Hopefully it fixes this Bluetooth bug. I keep losing my mouse.

Will do. I am using the V270 also. Sometimes it just quits working. I just updated the bios and there were 10 generations of differences between the one on my system and the new one. 3209 to 3219 and the update list did make some references to improvement of bluetooth. I'll keep you posted and thanks for the heads up elas123.

Once in a while. It seems to be a common complaint. After I uninstalled all of the Acer bloatware it seemed to get a little better but I still get disconnected.

Okay, I am pretty sure I have it fixed and it seems very stable. I removed Logitech setpoint software, the Acer power manager and the Widcomm Bluetooth software as well as the other Acer Bloatware. Computer seems faster without all of that overhead. Then I used Registry Mechanic to clean out all of the related registy entries all the while having the bluetooth dongle turned off. After a clean boot, I turned on the bluetooth dongle and let it install Microsoft drivers. Then I installed the newest Logitech Setpoint software that is specifically for the V270 off of their website. It goes through a very different install than with the Widcomm drivers. You have to tell it to skip installing the mouse in the end and find the mouse using the bluetooth icon in Control Panel. I have not lost the mouse yet (hours) and the machine seems faster and much more stable. Good so far.

Yes it is intergrated in the Notebook. It is a usb device though. You just turn it off at the switch. Maybe a bad choice of words on my part.

hm..what program did u guys use to flash the bios?
I googled WinFLASH, and the exe is back from 2001. It wouldn't run on my WinXP.
I tried, the dos based program that came in the archive and it said i have some kind of memory manager program running..even when i went in safe mode with command prompt.
    any ideas? thnx.

hm..i've downloaded 2 newer versions, one from 2004, and one from 2005. both says "OnBoard BIOS Not Award BIOS!"

I wonder who is Anda Chen, the man who developes bios.... (see readme.txt)

Which else details this BIOS can improve?

I'd like to use Acer Arcade as in TM 8200... to listen Audio CD or watching DVD with PC turned off...and in my opinion it's a problem of BIOS programming only.
Why is it not possible to able this capability? If not, (it's stupid...) I think that Acer Arcade is just one like other media software suites.... useless!

Intensecure, What is this scannow? i haven't really looked a much else from Empowering except for the power options.

arnaldo, i also wish that the 5672 had a quick play feature. its so common, on many "multimedia" laptops these days. but really. i cant live without it.

@gino_lee - scannow is just a simple procedure that checks that all your windows files are not corrupted, and haven't been "illegally changed" ;) by unsigned dll's.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html for the details. I have used this procedure many times in the past to fix my own, and others, corrupted windows files. Note however, that if you have done anything Microsoft don't certify, like install Omega Drivers, patch your themes dll etc, *it will ask you to install your Windows disc, and will replace with the original files*!
In my case, I had to reinstall my Omega ATI drivers afterwards, but it did not affect my RMClock settings at all :). It fixed my IR problem immediately, so somehow the driver or a related dll had become corrupted I reckon. Ah well, easy to fix these computer thingies ;)
(Anyway, there is no Acer software left on my machine! I removed the recovery partition, and removed all the Acer software as Windows, and me, can handle all those functions perfectly well without the excess baggage. To be honest, all that empowering stuff is just fluff - only adds a modicum of ease-of-use to basic functions IMHO. Far more useful to use better drivers - Omega's 6.2, which still has the old-style and better control panel with Powerplay, for the ATI, Synaptics own latest drivers are better for the touchpad - the Acer one's crashed! A crashing touchpad!! lol - and use RMClock for advanced PM. etc etc)

When I saw this thread I hoped that this was the BIOS update that is apparently necessary to work with whatever proper fix Microsoft is supposed to be testing for the identified and much talked about USB 2.0 Power Drain bug.

But I see no mention of this?

Acer already incorporates the registry "fix" that Microsoft announced (see Anandtech for details) into the system at factory, so it doesn't seem to suffer as badly as non-tweaked laptops. A new bios, or system patch, will be inevitable though at some stage, I guess.

The new BIOS v1.3219 fixes the BIOS Password hibernate problem. Just a reminder if you installed a clean XP or Home install then you'll need to administer the registry fix.

so your saying, if we flash the BIOS and then install a clean XP we would need to do a registry fix?

or is it, if we did a clean install and then did the BIOS upgrade we would need to do the registry fix?

its weird, i've never had this hibernate problem. I put it in standby when i go to sleep, and i guess after a couple of hours it will automatically go into hibernate. but i've never had any issues with it coming out of hibernation.

If you do a clean install (not an upgrade) you will need to do the registry fix regardless of a BIOS upgrade. The registry fix was included with XP Home (or Pro) by Acer when you purchased your 5672, but once you get rid of the operating system and start from scratch you remove all the registry entries. Now this is if you install from a non Acer version of Windows XP. If you reinstall from any recovery disk or from the recovery partition the registry fix will probably be there.

You must have a BIOS Password active and the computer must be in Hibernate mode for the bug to show up. When waking up from hibernate (hitting the ON button) the BIOS password screen will come up and ask for a password to continue. When you enter your password, it will say incorrect and ask it again. You can not get past the BIOS password screen to enter Windows. I had to short or unplug the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS to be able to get back into Windows. There is no problem with Standby mode with or without a BIOS password and there is no problem with Hibernate if you do not have a BIOS password. The new BIOS upgrade fixes this problem.

    Hey all:

Sorry to be such a newb (at Acer laptops) but I'm having a bit of trouble deciding if I should upgrade the BIOS on my 5672. Are there any differences between 5672s in Europe and the rest of the world? The Euro site is the only place where I've found the new BIOS and I don't want to use it if it's going to cause something to break on my Aussie version!

Secondly, I tried to backup my existing BIOS using WinPhlash and kept getting an error message about not being able to find the file. Has anyone been able to get this to work?

    Thanks,

    sibelius

I upgraded my U.S. version with the Euro version and haven't noticed a problem. All the BIOS menus are in English. I was able to back up my Old BIOS with WinPhlash without any problems. I choose the Backup BIOS and Flash BIOS setting, then select a directory and name for you backup and select the New BIOS to Flash, then click on Flash BIOS.
