Acer TM 4501 DISCONTINUED

I purchased one of these notebooks from directdial.com, and I've been camped out at my house for the last two days so I don't miss the courier. It's 4:00 now, so I'm wondering what's happened since it was supposed to arrive yesterday or "for sure" today. I call directdial, and one of their sales reps looks into the matter.

Apparently Acer has discontinued the item. Despite Directdial showing that it had 30 items in stock in its warehouses, they actually had none, and I'm not getting my computer. They already billed my credit card, and now they have to return the money to me. I'm so bloody pissed off right now I could spit fire.

I don't know why it's been discontinued. It's still up at the Acer site, and at several other online sellers. I'm going to call notebookoutlet.com to see if they actually have some in stock.

This is a crying shame. The 4501 was exactly the computer I wanted with just the right mix of low price tag and good features.

 

Okay. I talked to Acer and found out that they're replacing the 4501 with the 4502. The 4502 is moving more toward a "budget" idea, dropping the ATI video for one of those Intel Extreme Graphics chips, dropping the card reader (which they're doing for most of their lines, apparently), and changing the hard drive. Looks like those of you who got your TM4501s are pretty lucky to have got in under the wire.

Fortunately for me, the Acer guy mentioned that a local shop has put on a promotion to sell Acer AS1681s for $1898 CAD, so I'm going to go get one of those.

*sigh*

Oh well. At least I get my friggin' laptop.

 

Or not. I'm waiting for the local chain to call me back now. It turns out that they may just have floor models, and I'm not buying a floor model.

 

Check out www.newegg.com they show the 4501 avail for $1379US doing the exchange that's cheaper than what you can get it in Canada for.

Now I believe you are in Canada, they only ship in the US but if you know someone that lives in the US (GOOD friend or relative) get them to order it for you and you can go pick it up if they live close to the border or get them to ship it to you and you just pay them back.

There is a store in Toronto called notebook depot, www.notebookdepot.com I was in there last week checking out the aspire 1681 and they seem to have a good selection of Acer LT's so check out their site and give them a call.
