I have just bought a second hand Acer TM4150 and I can't get a better resolution than 1024 * 768. I would like a resolution of 1280 * 960, does anyone know how I can achieve this. Can you fool it into thinking that it is the attached monitor (default monitor not the plug and play monitor), which seems to have these capabilities. Can someone tell me about plug and play monitor which sends info to the processor (EDID or something like that).

I have the correct driver, and I have tried different drivers. Is there a universal driver that could do this?

    Ian.

    Welcome to NBR.

I don't think you can do that, 1024x768 seems to be the highest resolution for this model's monitor, drivers can't change that. There are some programs that can be used to set up custom resolution but I doubt they'll work for you.

ATG is right. 1024x768 would be the native resolution of the LCD panel on that model of computer. Just wondering, how much did you have to plunk down for that computer?

Just FYI, but I'll post one more thing:

Those are the same default resolutions that I can get if I were to run my laptop without graphics drivers. The only driver you have installed is the "standard VGA adapter" driver, which is why you probably think you have what you need installed.

I'm looking at your post and the spec page I found here. You believe that you have the 910/915 family chipset (which has the GMA 900), but the specs page I found said that notebook has the 945 chipset and the GMA 950. That might be why any drivers you downloaded did not work.

Can you run CPU-Z and confirm which chipset you have.

Also, Intel's drivers for the 910/915 ( click) or the 945 ( click) are what you need to try and install again once you get the info from CPU-Z.

That same specs page says your notebook is a 15.4" 1280x800 display.

Greg, you're looking at Travelmate 4200 and the OP has Travelmate 4150 which has 15" screen and Intel 910/915( specs).

    Found specifications in English, here.

Oh, that fooled me. The page I found said TM 4200-4150.

If I'm reading your spec sheet correctly, the laptop the OP is asking about has a MAX resolution of 1024x768.

So there is no way to increase the resolution of the laptop, you'll need an external monitor.

OK, I attached an external monitor and I could increase the resolution but the display was not good. Is there any such thing as an external video card, or can I change the processor with a better built in video card.

If I attach a an external monitor, I will still have the graphics card/chip. Therefore, I might get a better resolution with a bigger screen but I will get the same quality. Does that make sense? Is there some way that you can loop back from the USB port to monitor output through an external vga card to get a better quality?
