    Dag,

You're not talking about your wireless card are you? Why do you need to setup a connection? And if this is the ethernet (wired LAN), then why are you looking at signal strength?

Looking at what you typed, I'm gonna assume you're talking about your wireless card and not your ethernet. Just one quick question, did you turn the wireless card on? There's a switch on your notebook, either a physical switch or by hitting a series of keys Fn+ something to turn it on. This needs to be done for it to work.

Next, you need to enable and configure wireless on your router and then put similar settings for your wireless card in your notebook. Once everything si setup correctly, you should connect fine.

If wireless is not the problem, you're gonna have to explain what you mean.

If the problem is like what Filibusterman indicated, Gigabit only running at 100Mbit, then that's because your router is only 100Mbit. Once connected to a gigabit router/switch, then you'll get gigabit speeds.
