I just got my 4810T and replaced the bundled Windows Vista with Windows XP. Everything is working well... except for the LCD backlight controls. I am noticing that any time the Intel VGA driver is loaded the brightness keys do not work. The funny part is that at boot time and in the early stages of Windows init the keys are functional. Finally, before I wiped the drive the keys were functional with the factory install of Vista.

I have tried reinstalling chipset drivers, VGA drivers, and Acer's LaunchManager utility in different orders to no avail.

    Intel VGA - VGA_Intel_6.14.10.5002_XPx86_A.zip
    Chipset - Chipset_Intel_9.0.0.1011_XPx86_A.zip
    LaunchManager - 2.0.05
    BIOS - factory (I haven't upgraded to 1.20 yet)

    I'd like to to know:

    1) Is anyone else experiencing this?
    2) If so, has anyone resolved it by flashing the BIOS to 1.20?

I'd rather not go there until I have a good idea if it will help or not...

Well, Acer support is pretty much worthless. After a 6 e-mail exchange with a handful of scripted customer "service" reps they closed my ticket and offered me the "opportunity" to pay $2/minute to talk to a live person who is probably equally as clueless. Because they cared about my satisfaction. A lot.

When I asked them why they provide drivers for Windows XP if they don't intend to support them, I was ignored.

So, just a word of warning for anyone planning to replace the bundled Vista with Windows XP - your backlight brightness controls probably won't work, and Acer doesn't care.
