I got the 5820 TG with the following configuration 1 week ago (bought in Europe):
    Intel Core i5-430M | ATI 5650 | 4 GB RAM | HDD 500 GB 5400 rpm

I installed Windows 7 Professional (not the OEM W7 Home Premium it ships with), and all drivers from the Acer support page, but have the following issues:

    1. Left speaker static noise
    - The left speaker makes a barely audible noise, as long as the Realtek Audio device is enabled. When disabled, any noise dissappears.
    - No Audio device settings have yielded any results (like disabling effects, microphone, etc).
    - The noise is there even if headphones are plugged in, or if any music/video is playing.
    - Sometimes, the speaker noise becomes very loud, then reverts back to the more silent mode after a while (hours). A reboot does not help, the sound is loud even when entering the BIOS, or booting with Ubuntu.

    2. CPU fan running at 100%
    - Sometimes the CPU fan starts running at 100%, even though the processor usage level is below 10% (CPU frequency is low power 1200 MHz).
    - The air that comes out of the fan is cold.
    - A reboot usually helps, but not always.

    3. Blank screen after lid close
    - Sometimes, after closing the lid, the screen remains blank, even though the power scheme specifies never to turn off the screen.
    - Reboot or sleep are the only ways to get the screen working again.
    - The Intel video adapter is disabled from the BIOS (Discrete video option).

All of the above issues could be triggered by software/driver problems. Has anyone else encountered these problems with the Timeline series and a vanilla Windows 7 Professional ?

    For
1)Try other drivers maybe latest realtek driver for other newer Acer Models?
2)Try setting passive cooling in Windows Advance Power Management
3)For 3 I think it is because of Acer Firmware.
I once RE their firmware to check on all hidden options in the Firmware there was 1 entry on Discrete Video Adapter S4 wakeup.
They probably disabled it because they assume everyone would be on switchable mode.
Classic Example of lousy Acer Firmware QA. One Word: Pathetic.

I tried that already, to no avail. Even with the Windows 7 default HD Audio drivers, I have the same speaker issue.

It's set for battery mode, but won't this decrease the frequency in CPU intensive applications, instead of having the fan run faster ?

Hm, I will try to enable the switchable mode and get back with the results. Thanks for the tips.

I tried the BIOS update, but no dice. The laptop's under repair now at Acer, will see how it works out. Needless to say, I'm pretty dissapointed by it.

Sounds like you're running off your Intel GPU.

First, check to make sure your 5650 is enabled when gaming.

A sure-fire way to make sure you are on the ATI card is to go to your BIOS and manually set it in Discrete mode.

    What kind of processor problem?

It sounds like something is wrong with your computer... fix one thing.. something else goes wrong...

Did you do a clean install or are you running from factory?

Any recent drivers / updates you have done?

Can you remember anything you did different which triggered the initial GPU problem?

Probably because it's downclocked due to power-saving. Try to set it in performance mode in Control Panel > Power Settings and run the test again.

Rludvig Did you find any solution on the fan problem?
It seems that alot of people got that problem, along with freezing.

I would be more than happy to see an answer for the fan speed problem.
I should be able to fix with an update but acer won't be focused if individuals are contacting them therefore i think we should get a view of how many is expericening this.

According to the Freeze problem, dunno if you have tried that.. but the only answer i got from Acer support was to reinstall my OS, which didn't effect anything.
The closest i've come to a solution is to restart the computer everytime you change graphic card. IMO the graphic card swicthing is causing alot of problems, should also be able to be patched away, but they need to get it fixed before this laptop gets to old to support.

    Fixes much appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
