I think Acer just hit a niche market with the Timeline series. No other manufacturer has touched this area before. The first time I saw the specs I knew I wanted one. The price/weight/performance/battery life ratio can not be matched by any notebook on the market. Or am I wrong? What other notebooks are there? Where can I buy a 13.3 inch Acer Timeline in Canada?

The 14" and 15.6" models are just being introduced - the 13.3" will come with time.

That is exactly what my impression was when first seeing it one Canada Computers website, 8 h battery life for $800? Never heard of.

If the battery life claim is true, and the core solo can give me a vista rating of 3 or above, I will be all over it.

Anyone with hands on experience please comment on the battery life, noise, and heat of this computer, thanks!!

FutureShop has the 14.1" version in Canada. $799, albeit for the SU2700 version. I'm planning on going out to take a look at it. I'm also very excited about this series, although I'll be waiting for the 13.3" version mostly.

available at my local walmart store today, the acer 5810t timeline. at first look, it is very impressive to me.a super thin laptop, with a chichlet full size, full keyboard (additional number keys), 15.6 hd display and a long 8 hours battery. the laptop sure stand out from those decent other brand laptop that the store offer. i would not expect that a store like walmart offer this laptop line. this may be the very first time that i may consider my first buy acer laptop.

i went home and check out the walmart online site, it is on the site.

Went to Futureshop canada for a quick look for the 14' one (with SU2700 core 2 solo 1.3G). Very thin and light for its size. Feels solid with the non-plastic body. Keyboard feels ok but not the greatest. There is a long blue light at the front edge to indicate battery life, good concept but really annoying strong blue light (personally i hate those light anywhere any time).

I ran a Vista score testing there, got 3.2 overall, the CPU is 3.4, the aero effect is 3.2 (the lowest). so it shall be more than enough for office work and webbrowsing but not much more. After the test i felt the bottom, pretty cool. To compare, my HP tablet2500, just bying running the test after a cold start will generate heat that makes the bottom hot.

I will be very interested to see how they will price the core 2 duo model.

Many companies are hitting this market...

Asus' U/UX, MSI's X-slim, and Acer's Timeline. Dell and Lenovo already have plans for a similar machine too... have yet to see battery life on the Timeline but many machines can hit a high battery life (9 hours on 9 cell) including the 15.4" T500 and E6500.

Actually it's not really chicklet like Sony and Apple have. Here's a pic of my 751 that has the same keyboard as the Timeline series.

Not really a fair comparison... Any notebook can hit 9 hours if you give it a large enough battery. Those 9 cell batteries stick out to the bottom and the back, and add a lot of weight.

Far more interesting to see what laptops can reach 9 hours on a standard battery that sits flush. Timeline will not be able to do it, but will exceed 7 hours.

I believe the 6 cell for both 15.4" T500/E6500 can hit 6 hours and are flush. While heavier than the Timeline notebooks, they don't use the lower and ultra low voltage processors and are built a lot better. But still, different market due to weight alone.

These really are amazing. 13", Core 2 duo CULV, 500GB hdd, 4GB memory

    All for 800 or 900 dollars :D

Only 1 question. Is the 1.4ghz core 2 duo processor powerfull enough to run HD flash videos smoothly? (Youtube/Hulu) or will it be choppy and studder?

I play Flash HD smooth with a Pentium M 1.6GHz. A Core 2 Duo 1.4GHz is three times more powerful.
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_list.php

It's true that Atom 1.6 is not powerful enough. With overclocking an Atom it comes really close. I expect the Asus 1000HE with Atom N280 can do it with a slight overclock.

Can't find 3810T Part # LX.PCR0X.092 with the Core 2 Duo anywhere yet.

I wonder when this part will start arriving.

lol yeah -looks up money conversion-

I wonder if they'll come out with an extended battery for it lol. A 12cell would be amazing xD, I could get over the little bump in the bottom for a 16 hour battery life lol
