Hey guys,
I think I might let you know. My wife and I bought two of them three weeks ago and we have the same recurrent problem with booth of them. The fan management seems unreliable. For a couple a days it works very discreetly, inaudible. Three days later, after rebooting, the fan started to speed up during windows boot and did not stop till locked at 80% of full speed. Notice, whatever the laptop is dead cold at boot or not, it does not change anything. It does not overheat, but comparing booth and one working properly, the defect one seems slightly warmer.
A new install was made on my wife ultrabook by shop technician but the problem was back again after a 3 days. Did the same on my laptop and again, two days after, the problem was there and draining the battery like crazy in 2h30. The battery, when the ultrabook works correctly, does old 8 hours in normal use.
Tried with no success:
- Reinstall (2x)
- Setup power management
- Upgraded Intel graphics pilots
Remark: When opening the windows task manager, the fan speed down to a quitter pace but never stops.
Have the last 1.08 bios for Win7. Fresh Windows 7 install, McAfee Security Suite (no virus detected), MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.
Any suggestion is more than welcome before returning again the Ultrabooks to Acer after sales service.
Thanks,
Jay.

Isn't there a high CPU usage?
Fan working hard and shirt battery life suggest there is something using the CPU in which case the fan does what it's expected to do.
Check CPU usage at (supposedly) idle.
