but i don't want to do it every time i turn on my laptop though...
and questions about the temperature, i set 600core and 900ram, and play starcraft2 for a while, and the temperature goes up to 86c. is this normal??
i saw the first page saying 650core and 950ram is safe, so what would be the normal temperature for those clock setting?
thanks again.

Ok finally I formatted my SSD and reinstalled Win 7. As I could never quite uninstall that stupid Acer ePower. Found out that something o it must have been left behind effecting my wireless card power settings?
Anyway I fogot what a huge difference a fresh "clean" install of windows 7 feels like. System is so much quicker. Thought I would re-benchmarked the i5 580m overclocked and sure enough its faster now.
Could these be the best times yet on a 3820TG???
Wprime 32mb @ 16.037 and superpi @ 12.72. I could overclock higher but 152 or 154 BLCK is not 100% stable. No really not any use to me. It will work for hours then randomly lock up @ 154.
-
I tad hot I would say, I've played Sc2 and other demanding games while overclocked and have never had temps that high. Normally around 78 degrees max. What bios version are you on? 1.17 seems to let the GPU get somewhat hotter than 1.13 I heard from one member here.

Hello,
Could someone help me with bluetooth module installation on 3820?
I have laptop w/o BT module. Have bought one on eBay with cable from 4810 model: it has same 4pin socket as 3820.
But when I installed module nothing happened. I have tried to press Fn+F3 but it just turns on/off Wi-Fi. I have tried to remove Wi-Fi card. After that Fn+F3 does nothing. So it seems module is not working
. I wonder maybe this is because of cable. Maybe 4810 has same socket but different pins mapping. On cable from 4810 I have following mapping (for installed module, connected cable, from down to up):
BT side MB side
1 black 1 black
2 red 2 red
3 yellow 3 yellow
4 gray 4 gray
5 not used
6 not used
7 not used
8 not used
I wonder maybe somebody knows correct cable mapping for 3820?
Or have positive/negative experience of installing BT module with cable from 4810 into 3820? -
Did you load a driver?
Bronsky
-
I have tried. It said, translate from russian,: "BT device is not found. For installation continue, please ensure that BT device is connected properly".
And still, AFAIK, it should work with original MS Win7 driver. Is it? -
my bios is 1.13 too..... so 86 is really bad?? anyway to lower it?
-
Sounds like a challenge to me....

I have a 5820TG with an i5-460M and a 9-cell battery.
Unfortunately I also have a Western Digital HDD, 640GB version. It has the "stall" every now and than problem.
I read about using quietHDD to make it better, my question is:
What are the impacts on battery life when using quietHDD to disable APM and AAM control ?
Also, my HDD doesn't do any clicking noise, the only problem I have is the stall. -
OMG!
No! Not really! Both of my units came clean.
Check out what notebookcheck had out of the box, scroll to the middle, check picture "Mystery prize in the box! Oh boy!"
Acer 3820TG Notebookcheck -
your sig says Asus 3820TG. and if I had seen this before i wouldnt have paid 750 +13% tax for mine.
-
it came clean, i made it dirty....
-
Nevermind - you got me beat.
In theory the i7 620m should oc close to what you get from your 580m -
LOL - what was I thinking...well, looking at those notebookcheck photos it might make sense.
Anyways, the my lid is black, it does collect fingrprints, the provided cloth cleans like 90% of them. -
and the OTHER 10%??
-
I am pretty sure thats an ACER model....

How can I get the computer to Always default to the Intel graphic card ?
I hate that it goes automatically to the ATI when it's plugged in. -
disable the GPU in device manager should do it. However most of us bought this for the switchable 5650.
-
So I'm having some trouble with installing the video card drivers. I'm doing a fresh install of windows 7 and I'm installing drivers in the following order:
Intel chipset drivers
Intel turbo boost drivers
Intel iamt drivers
Acer supplied ati catalyst drivers
(at this point for some reason it showed that both the ati vid card and intel graphics were already installed in device manager. The odd thing is that it showed the supplied driver for the intel graphics as ati when looking at the properties)
I decided to go ahead and install the intel hd graphics at this point, but that just ended up superseding the ati drivers. With the "switchable" option set in the bios the intel graphics would be primary in windows and the ati card would not be recognized. When I set the option to "discrete" win 7 would load as if no graphics drivers were installed. At this point I just decided to install the catalyst 10.10 drivers to see if it would fix anything. With the bios set to switchable win 7 loads with a black screen. I'm pretty sure the intel and ati drivers are conflicting. If I set it to discrete win7 will load the ati drivers just fine. I've already wiped win 7 off my ssd in order to reinstall everything. Anyone have any suggestions on a correct installation order for the vid card drivers? -
Oh no! Don't get me wrong, I want to be able to use the 5650, I just want to change it manually whenever I want, I don't the computer to switch to it automatically when I plug it in the outlet.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
Does someone know how I can get my hands on one of those beauties in Brazil?
-
uninstall the acer epower management and everything will be a breeze
-
I recently did a format&reinstall. I used this sequence and it worked OK.
1. Intel Chipset
2. Intel Turbo
3. Intel VGA (Acer's drivers)
4. ATI VGA (Acer's drivers)
5. All the other drivers...
Make sure that graphics is set to Switchable in BIOS and use this sequence, it should work. -
Hey guys I am about to buy one of these... I mean 4820 or 3820...
Please tell me... This 3820 model has one more heatsinker... Does it make obvious difference ? What are your experiences ? Some people complain about high temps in 4820tg... Do you have same issues ? Well my priority is to buy 4820tg but I might consider 3820tg for better cooling. -
I just installed the ATI 10.10 driver with GPU accelleration on my Desktop HD 5870 and WHAT A DIFFERENCE! There were two options when downloading the catalyst drivers, one without the GPU accelleration and one with. Does ATI give you the same options when you dl a mobile driver? I would love to have this support on my new 3820TG since I think I am going to install the Firepro drivers on it and use is as a workstation GPU.
It looks like 10.10 has been giving everyone a lot of problems. Anybody running it without any issues?

@run.dll see my answer to your post in the 4820TG thread. Most of us read both so there is no need to cross-post. -
Thank you Mr Bronsky but I asked different questions on both forums because I want to get info from both machines' users. This question here is about temperatures. If the 3820 cooling system much better is... I need to learn this very concretely.
-
The answers are somewhere in the forum.
-
It will still change. The switch is controlled by the driver not epower.

Does that mean that there is no way to stop it from behaving that way (switching to ATI when you plug it in) ?
On another news, my girlfriend bought a 3820TG and I have the 5820TG. I've been comparing both, and strangely I can't get the 3820TG to be as low as the 5820TG in term of discharge rate(measured with BatteryCare).
After doing the same tweaks to both, the 5820TG can reach around 6.4w while the 3820TG goes down only to 7.2.
One thing to notice is that the 5820TG has an OUC (or is it AUC?) panel, while the 3820TG has an LG panel. -
I replaced the TIM on the CPU/NB and noticed that the core temp is still fluctuating a lot. the cores i can see a difference in temp as much as 5-10 degrees C. either i have a faulty temp sensor or this is normal.
anyone comment? -
i beleive mine has gone as low as 5.6 ill try to get a screenshot later.
-
5.6w would make more sense for the 3820TG, the one I have here has the LG panel. Which panel do you have ?
I'm thinking maybe the LG panel uses more power. -
nope i have LG panel as well
edit: here is the lowest discharge i can get. i generally still play games on battery (while in lectures, gobus, etc) so i get around 3 hours playing games.

this is with screen brightness at lowest and wifi off. -
What determines which LCD panel brand is in which supplier's models? Does PC Home have all LG?
-
start -> device manager -> monitors -> (rightclick) generic pnp monitor -> properties -> details -> hardware ids -> read
-
Thanks for your reply but I mean, which brand of LCD panels are in computers from which retailers. Are the PC Home all LG? Are the Canadian available models OAC/UAC (I don't remember exactly)? What about in Europe, or does it vary by batch or manufacture date?
-
from what i know, its random.
-
I bought a 5820TG here in Sweden and it came with a Samsung display. I would guess it depends on the date of manufacturing.
-
The 3820TG is pushing another fan than the 5820TG, I would expect a higher discharge rate while the ATI is engaged. I wonder if the fan is shutdown by the bios or driver when the IGPU is engaged? If not, I would expect a higher discharge rate then too.

Hi. Which 3820tg configuration would you guys choose for gaming performance? And where would you buy it? I live in Lynnwood WA.
Or should I pick the 4820tg instead? -
question: at 750/1090 i run ati tool and i can see some dots while scanning for artifacts but ATI tool doesnt detect them. these arent stable right?
-
No. Dots seem to indicate memory- try to lower it a bit.
-
I'm getting a Canadian I3-370M tomorrow. I will probably be keeping it stock for a few weeks unit I see if my old motherboard can be repaired. I'm going to run some benchmarks to see how it performs. Maybe I'll load Medal of Honor on it to see how it handles games.
You can import them right from Vancouver Retailers.

it performs fine. i run force unleashed 2 at max, aswell as SC2 and fallout new vegas
-
I forget about4820tg.... I decided to go 3820tg... There are only 2 options available where I live: I am going to get either i3 330m or i3 370m... 80 dollars difference.... Any opinions ?
(i5 460 option is available too but there is 170 dollars difference... so I forget about that one) -
Mine pops up when I plug it in and says its going to change automatically in like 300 seconds but I can just hit cancel....
-
It seems like most people switch out the keyboard for a US one, are the keyboards really that different?
And where can I get one with a i5? -
I got mine from Staples.
But mine came with the crappy video card. Well it's still good but not as good as the euro one. -
My replacement 3820TG is on the UPS truck and ready for delivery. I should have it in a couple of hours.

awesome sauce!
i hope you enjoy this beast of a laptop!
