The one with the HD5650. The CPU wont't make a much difference regarding games, unless if it's a 540M or faster (even this case it wouldn't improve game performance IMO, OCing the GPU does)

    EU or Asia.

You have the option to get reasonable priced i5 from eBay, and install it.

    Guys !

I just joined the club with my i3 370m CPU hd 5650 GPU 3820tg !

I finished opening the box ... The notebook is so beautiful... Really. I loved it even before I turned it on... Now I am writing with my old acer travelmate 2350 which I am using since 2005 ! But soon I will inform you about the progress I get with my new acer. This oldie has never let me down for 5 years ! I never needed service ! I hope the new one lasts that long too.

    We will see !

hi guys do you have any color management profile out there for this notebook? i'm really starting to dislike 'black' color as it does not really show black, it's more of grey black...

I'm oficially joining the club :D

I ordered an 3820tg from ComputerUniverse today. It was a returned good, so I asked by email if it had any kind of software or hardware problem. They say it had a slight scratch on the frame of the screen and that's why it was returned (not any scratches on the screen itself tough). They offered me a 70 euro discount for it and assured me that I had total warranty in case of any problem with this notebook for 2 years.

So in total I got it for 800 euros instead of 870 (including shipping to Spain). It should be here by the end of the week I hope :)

But it is from Turkey... I hope it will be use to you...

    VATAN COMPUTER - Türkiye'nin Bilgisayar Hiperstore'u

The one I bought... I just tried it... No failures... Totally clean boxed... Sealed... I checked every inch... very clean

Now the windows 7 setup has been completed. I plugged off the power cable... the system switched to intel graphics... I will wait till morning till the battery gets empty. It shows 6 hours battery time.

Great stuff, finger crossed its a nice overclocking unit. Ie you can select the g73jh clockgen

Edit: Can anyone recommend a good 13.3" Note backpack? I have my old 17" one that is now a bit big for my 13.3" laptop..Need one smaller.

It's here! I already sent my donation so I should have an activation code in a day or so. I don't have time to spend with my new 3820TG until tonight but I will probably put my old KB in (without wiring the backlighting at the moment), put in my SSD and do a clean install. I am pulling the HD before turning the unit on, so that I do not have to select the language. That way, it can sell to someone who if French if my original motherboard turns out to be repairable (I know - I'm dreaming). I'll let you know about the OC as soon as I get the new install done.

    My 1410T is sad. :(

BTW, there is an October 30, 2010 revision to SetFSB.

I think the entire city of Philadelphia is wimax capable. It is the home of Clear ISP who is heavily involved in promoting the protocol. But, of course, the 3820's with Wimax will be sold in Germany, not here with the protocol is being promoted.

No dedicated GPU on the new 3820? I'm lucky Wimax isn't available in sweden, otherwise i've pulled my hair in anger since I just bought the 3820TG.

So I'm finally part of the 3820tg family ^^. I should of been a member two weeks ago but when it arrived the bios and system detected no HDD. I sent it off for repair and got it back today. Turns out the HDD was simply disconnected and they just reconnected it, ran a couple of tests and sent it back to me. I could of done that :(. I just figured the HDD was dead.

But it's all sorted now, up and running with a fresh Win 7 Pro. No driver issues and switchable graphics etc working fine.

Thank you to all the people who have posted support in this thread. Has helped me a ton and has been great to read.

I bought the laptop today so I checked for them too... There were so many bags for 13.3 so no trouble if you just go to a shop selling laptop stuff. You see there something you like for sure !

For me I did not buy any today. Because it was another reason for me buying this notebook. To put it into my backpack... I am addicted to carrying backpack since primary school... Now I just cover the 3820tg and put it in the middle of my stuff in my backpack... It is so suitable there! It is really like a book. This laptop deserves the name "notebook". I don't think I ll ever need seperate bag for it.

I've had a lot of time to watch BatteryCare's power consumption on my 3820TG 330M during some boring lectures at school, and I've been able to make the machine run at 6 to 7 watts at 30% screen brightness and no WiFi while taking notes in class.

I've noticed that putting the machine to sleep adds 1-1.5 watts to the power consumpten when the machine is woken back up. What causes this? Is it some component not being able to resume properly, or a bad setting somewhere? The same thing doesn't happen when hibernating.

    Thanks =)

yeah it seems like when i put mine to sleep over night few to about 10% of batt is gone, not sure exactly as i dont remember. I think its pretty normal as stand by is different to hibernate.

Stand by: data is stored to RAM, power cut off to screen and hard drive but the laptop is still on but using very low power mode.

Hibernate: Data is stored on hard drive and laptop shuts down completly i believe.

    Am i right ?

Oh, I know the computer consumes battery when in standby-mode, but I'm talking about the working state consumption while using the machine before having been in standby-mode for the first time after a clean boot (6-7 watts), and after having been in standby-mode (8-8.5 watts)

It should be consuming the same, but I'm thinking maybe the graphics chip or some USB-port is having trouble idling after having been sleeping or something...

It's a not a huge loss of working minutes per day or anything, but if anything knows a reason or a workaround I'm very interested in hearing it ;)

And yes, you are completely right about what sleep and hibernate does =)

Sleep keeps the RAM powered, while hibernate shuts the computer down completely after writing the contents of the RAM to the harddisk

    Without a doubt.

    My new Acer:

I popped my old HD into the new Acer and it started right up. The Atheros Wifi does not like my Broadcom driver and the BT driver keeps trying to load, but other than that, it started up just fine. I'm going to clean install W7 as soon as I get anything important off this HD and get the back-up files and apps (launch manager and registration) off the other drive.

I was marveling at how similar the display looked to my old one and it turns out that I have an AUO 322C just like my German unit. :D The SetFSB does not get a PLL error and can run the Asus G73 clockgen. :D I'm not sure how well though.

I have the Atheros Wifi. :D So far so good. So much for comparing displays. Sorry OC-Freak.

Edit: I can't run the Asus G73 clockgen for long before I get a black screen. I'm still using all the old unit's software. I'll try all of this after I get a clean install done.

I'm curious, when you say clean install of W7, are you using the disc that came with the system? I thought I read that the included disc was a recovery disc, such that while you could reinstall Windows, it'd still have all the bloatware.

Everything is working fine with my 3820tg so far, but I hear a little electronical voice coming inside from the machine... It is not hdd... Hdd is very silent but this noise is like electronical whistle and when I put my ear close to keyboard I hear it better. It is like the disturbing sound we get from some electronical devices like old tv s. It is like a bit very thin mosquito sound. Is it normal...? Or are my ears extra sensitive ? DO you all have it ?

Hi Zdanee! I try so many way to get my laptop back to work but it keep saying it can't find recovery partition. :(

So I get the Win7 enterpise from my friend... and try to repair it but counldn't find the drivers to do it.

Then I installed the new Windows first I didn't Fomat any drive and just installed in on old drive C so it keep everything in Windows(old) folder.

There for all the Acer programs still there and I try to recovery by using eRecovery management but still it doesn't work.

After that I reinstalling the Windows again but this time I fomat the drives C and D BUT I didn't delete the recovery partition. I then try to recovery using eRcovery CD it still not working (see the picture)

and then I install the drivers and program Acer eRecovery management and try it because I didn't delete the recovery .

As you can see my recovery partition still there but I can't use it? :(

Should I try fomat my recovery partition? And can I still get the win7 that came with Acer using serial on the bottom of the unit? I don't want to use fake windows...

    First post!!

Just bought a Acer 3820TG-3022 (Canadian staples) with 512 gpu. Got it for $650.00

Was wondering if I'm better returning it and getting the -7630 instead. I can get it for $730.00

I'm a noob and wanna make sure I'm getting the best bang for my buck. I don't play many (very few) games but may want to try diablo when it comes out.

I thought the one I got would be better because of the i5 vs. i3 but any light you could Shed would be much appreciated.

    Hi,

I'm currently using a i7 3820tg and realised that my fren, who has an i5, has a smaller power brick than i do. Is this normal? because i really want the smaller power brick. I chose the 3820 for its power and light weight, but i feel retarded carrying the big brick which adds the extra kgs. Defeats the purpose of getting a lightweight laptop.

My frens with dell laptops has even smaller power bricks! i know their laptops arent as powerful as mine but i'm hoping to be able to find a replacement power brick so i dont have to lug a heavy one around. Any help guys?

I'm not sure. So far, I just slapped my old HD in the new computer. I have not done a clean install yet nor loaded the new drivers. It's too early to tell about the OC'ing. At least I don't have a PLL error problem. I'll have everything backed up and the new OS installed this morning probably. I'm loading the new version of SetFSB and I need a new key. Abo wants me to send him my diagnostics screen when I get it loaded. He'll probably tell me that my unit won't overclock again. :D

It'll take a few days to work the bugs out. I'm impressed with the I3 so far but I haven't really done anything. It seems to have a lot of spirit.

I officially hate the bi-lingual keyboard. That didn't take very long. You literally can not locate the left shift key with your finger without looking. I'll snap in my old keyboard before I leave this morning.

i bought the one from canada computers and let me tell you its worth the price for the better gfx card. i5 wont help as much in gaming as the HD5650 will especially if you plan on playing diablo 3 on decent settings with some eye candy on.

I had the one you mentioned from staples for a bit but i tell you now that i own the i3 version. However, the Canada computers version does not have a built in blutooth module, unlike the staples version.

    regards.

Thats just read error from GPU-Z, its got DDR ram not SDR.

I noticed with 8GB of ram the score jumps to 6.x and with 4GB of ram I get 5.9 as a rating. So 5.5 for 3gb seems about right to me.

    My rating is as follows:

Ram will always be the lowest, due to the 1066Mhz ram Vs 1333Mhz systems. Second the harddrive.

I want to swap the WD 640GB HDD in my 5820TG for a Momentus XT 500GB.

How could I sell the WD that came with it ? I don't want to buy the XT until I sell this first. it's a budget issue + I already have too much storage between internal and external drives.

I'm in Canada if anyone is interested in a WD 640GB HDD.

    WEI is really pretty useless.

After upgrading CPU from i3-350m to i5-460m, as well as swapping the memory sticks to now include 4 gig of Samsung, no matter how much I rerun WEI, it always now shows 7.2 for memory (win7 32bit). Memory was 5.9 prior to swapping parts.

I downloaded a program called sharpkeys and remapped the key next to shift to also be shift. It has helped allot. I still have problems missing the enter key because, although it is bigger, it doesn't extend to the left as far as a US keyboard enter key.

    Remember to delete old WEI.

    del /f %SYSTEMROOT%\Performance\WinSat\DataStore\*.xml

That's a good solution, I need the left shift key for starcraft 2. I'm gonna do the same.
