What is the difference between the shareware version with the g73jh and the freeware with ics9lprs365bglf. Mine 430m overclocks awesome with the freeware. Does the freeware not work for you?

Don't know I never tried it just the shareware and I can overclock to 168Mhz FSB which is almost 3.4Ghz in turbo. Very stable. Ran prime95 for over 6 hours no issues.

MK-Electronics can order my speaker. For some reason, if they ship the part to me, UPS charges a premium (cost is 120E  ). They are suggesting that someone local (Germany) could receive my part and send it to me for much less. I'm looking into these costs. I can pay for the part by credit card and will figure out how to pay for the shiping as well. If anyone would let me ship to their address and then put it in the mail, etc. once I figure it out, I would appreciate it. Please send me a PM if you are willing to let them send the part to you. I wll be looking up my other costs.

    Thanks

I'm trying to contact Acer Support but it seems to be rather difficult.
It keeps saying I have put an invalid purchase date:/ The product is registered to my acer-account.

Hey Bronksy, I'm wondering about the throttling of the core i3 350M cpu at lower than 105c (compared to core i5 cpus).

Would this application be able to give accurate data on this? It seems to keep a log of whether the PROCHOT bit on the processor is ever triggered.

:GEEK: I`ve been following this thread to see if,among other things, anyone is finding an LG display in their 3820.It appears there may possibly be a reason why not.

According to DailyTech.com under the heading,"Parts Suppliers Can`t Keep Up With iPad Demand",there is information from LG regarding their production capacity that might explain the lack of LG displays in laptops.

This is FYI only and whithout prejudice as they (lawyers) say.

Display quality always seems to be an issue, and I`m hoping that Acer is paying attention to consumer concerns.Perhaps if enough of us speak up on this subject Acer will get the message.

The reason I`m taking the time to put this in writing is my belief that this type of information does get back to Acer, even though they may not publicly ackowledge it.

My 5 cents worth, thank you all for your time and good day!:GEEK:

That is an amazing OC. Even if you can only use it for CPU only tasks, that is a significant increase in power. Databases, spreadsheets, number crunching models would all run significantly faster at those speeds.

These numbers tempt me to do a pin mod. :D It looks like you only have to solder a jumper wire onto pin #4 of the clock gen. I want to see how the I7-620M performs OC'd. Has any I7-620M owner successfully done it yet?

computeruniverse now lists a new variation of the 3820TG-5454G64nks.

The only difference between this model and the other i5/5650 configurations seems to be the dual-channel RAM.

On a sidenote: has anyone upgraded the system memory to 8GB yet ? If so, what RAM-module(s) did you use?

Its not bad at all 3030 Mhz per core ;D And benching faster than a i7 620m @ stock clocks. I notice that encoding movies is much faster and the temps encoding and in the real world are much lower 86 degrees max vs 92 in prime95. I run 168 at start up all the time now. Just need to clock back to 133 for gaming.

When i7 620 prices are cheaper I might look at getting one. But would be worried at temps. Still imagine 168Mhz on a i7 620m  I guess over 4Ghz in turbo and like 3.4 in dual core mode? Would be nice. If they come down in price at all....might be sooner than later.

Yes as Bronsky says I would love to see a i7 620m overclocked. Come on i7 owners. Don't be scared :D

On a side note, using the 3g / utms module and 4 clicks above the lowest brightness setting I can almost get 4 hours 30-40 minutes.

So 3G does have a big impact on the battery life. No wonder 8 hours isn't mentioned on the info sticker!

another question removing the "void wrty if seal is removed" sticker voids the wrty? because its covering 2 screws to the access panel which houses the ram hdd and wifi card i put the stickers back in but they are half sticking so should i totally remove them or glue them back on??

    Help!!!!

I just got a 4820tg, all very nice.

I did a fresh install of windows (ofcourse forgetting to back up drivers)
so I found Bronsky's collection of drivers and downloaded.

I installed the ATI drivers, and then had a fiddle with switchable graphics. I either turned them on or off. Nothing happened for minute, and I went on with something else. Then suddenly screen goes off, flickers.

What has happened is that its now right at minimum minimum brightness. I can hardly see anything. I managed to do a system restore, to no avail.

Please someone tell me this isn't serious and there is something I can do about it !

I can't even see the screen when I reboot and hold f2 or f12

I have no idea what that looks like, but based on what you've described and the fact that it persists through BIOS, it sounds like a problem with the backlight. If it is a backlight problem, it's not something you can fix with software.

    hi speedy,

thanks for getting back to me on this. I am coming to that conclusion myself, i initially assumed it was my fault since it happened just after installing a graphics driver.

Yeah, that may just have been a coincidence. If it's really really really dim and changing the brightness settings doesn't affect that at all, then it's highly likely the backlight is dead. I'd just get a replacement unit.

Solved my sound issue. None of realteks drivers worked properly for me so I'm using Windows's driver atm. No fuzzing any longer.

Next issue: Does your Synaptics mousepad's functions (multitouch/scrolling) stop working sometimes, and some time after start working again?

hey hendrickson i see you got yourself a new 3820tg :) nice one, i ve been gone for a while havent followed thread. Could you pin point me to how set clocks in SetFSB [to 3.4mhz] (i donated 500Y for the key) so i should have it tmrw. I have got 450m, and my 3820tg model is 5452 G50nks. How are your maximum temps (for example bad comapny 2), also has it much improved the performance ?

    Cheers!

I would reinstall windows. Then ask someone who has backed up their 4830TG with eRecovery to tell you which files are in their DRV folder. Then go to the Acer website and DL the ones that come with the original 4820TG. See if that solves your problem.

The 3820TG drivers would be completely different IMO. If your machine was working perfectly when you got it, it is probably Okay. Take it back to the beginning and start over. Calmly. Plus the power saving program is really touchy. I could see it shutting down the backlighting.

Anyone know, why overclocking the CPU isn't yielding the performance increase one would expect in games ?

BTW: Does OCing the CPU/GPU void the warranty?

No, since you can just set it back to default before sending it in for service, not that I think they would even notice/care if you didn't.

Select the G73jh clockgen (the last one at the bottom and push the get fsb button. Move the slider up between 133 - 160 Mhz first and hit setfesb to set the clock rate. And test it in prime95 till its stable. Normally if its too high your 3820TG will just reset.

Personally my maximum clock I reached was 3527 Mhz @ 176Mhz FSB  . But that's not stable in mutli threaded apps and crashes

Proof here of that clock: CPU-Z Validator 3.1

I run a stable 3.36Ghz (Turbo) @ 168Mhz bus speed now that passed hours of prime95 + Furmark testing with a max temp of 96. At 166Mhz FSB the temp max's out at 92degrees. More on my test here with proof: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...rks-tweaks-mods-upgrades-225.html#post6509367

At this speed shes faster than a stock i7 620m (More proof below) :

But in the real world, converting videos and music. Large zip archives I have never seen it go over 89 degrees. Thats at 168Mhz, so shes a cool runner. Your machine maybe different. You should at least reach 160Mhz

Overclocking at the moment is good for anything non GPU related. However when gaming and overclocked we loose FPS. around 10%. This is due to bus bandwidth and so far we don't know how to solve this issue. It could be a permanent thing. So for gaming clock back to stock levels.

Still for a free boost in anything non 3D that makes your i5 450m out preform a stock i7 620m., its not bad ;) Just a imagine a i7 620m overclocked :) (Edit: i7 620m we discovered are poor overclockers due to the 1mb extra cache)

i would assume there would be a noticable performance gain in games like gta 4 and bad company 2 as they use 100% of my cpu (i5-450) while gaming. I will let you know if there is once i receive my SetFsb shareware key.

Thanks Bronsky, I am at the point of sending it back, and it would be pretty dumb and a waste of everyone's time for me to do that if it is not a physical problem with the backlight. I am going to try to reinstall windows now.

I'd like to know though, if I reinstall windows, and it keeps being very dim and flickering, is it definitely a backlight problem?

Daaaaaah, can't make up my mind on what to get, 3820, 4820 or 5820...

I feel like the 13.3" will be too small for me when gaming away from home, when I am home I almost constantly have my external screen connected. But the dual-fansetup is really nice. 4820TG seems to have some heat issues and 5820TG seems to be okay, I like a little bigger screen for gaming but I hate the keypad.

Help someone, is 13.3" okay for gaming?

I would start by removing all power and the battery for 4 or 5 minutes. Then put power back and try to do the install again. The timing of the loss of backlight could be a coincidence but then again, it is possible for the software could have toggled it off. Once it loads windows, all the 4820TG drivers are loaded and the machine is rebooted, if you don't get a backlight and the power settings are right, time to take it back.

Is the paid version of SETFSB needed to overclock? I have the shareware downloaded and I choosed the clock generator ASUS G73JH as Hendrickson told me and it works without and errors. This should mean its clockable right?

:) Now I have to make up my mind if I want to clock at all :).

Please keep in my mind that I was thinking of this post underneat when I wrote my question:

Not much you can do to these keyboards. They either work or they don't. If you have one that is not registering when you hit it, you most likely have a defective KB or a bad connection at the ribbon. Either way, my recommendation is that it goes back.

Question: all you guys running 3DMark show that your GPU is HD 5750. How does that happen? Did you reflash the firmware? Or does 3DMark just not interpret the card correctly?

Yea, of course, you're right. I just got a feeling that the OP was not comfortable taking his KB off and checking the connection. That would have been the first thing I would have done, that's why I recommended that it go back.

Quick question I couldn't find searching: Is the cpu definitely upgradeable and not soldered on? I want to get a cheaper i3 version imported and then upgrade to an i5 here.

Does the back-light work well at the BIOS, during POST or booting some linux distro or whatever?
If not, your best bet would be to just get another one, either the back-light is defective or you got some connection problems, and sincerely it's probably much more troublesome to check and fix them (if at all possible) than to just get a working unit.
