The various modells are only tested on their base frequencies, so there is no guarantee that every 520m can be ocd to the speed of a 550m.

It may be there is a high variance between chips.
While a chip may run at the same voltage and frequency, it run hotter and consume more power.
If they are at the same voltage then the higher end chips will likely be the better less leaky samples. -
Is there a place that I can order the 4830TG online that will ship to the USA? That will have a QWERTY keyboard?
I am tired of waiting and it is this or the Y470 -
PCHome is probably the only place at the moment that has a US/Chinese Keyboard and ships to the US. http://product.pchome.net/pc_notebook/series/5415.html (use it on Chrome for translation) The only problem is registering the warranty. There is a post in the 3820TG thread where Acer would not honor the warranty from a unit bought from Taiwian and shipped to the US, unless the unit was shipped to the Depot in Taiwian.
There were a fair amount of 3820TGs shipped from there before the canadian units arrived. You're probably better off waiting. It shouldn't be that much longer.

Yes, that is a well known fact in the OC community. The chips varies between batches and even within batches from location on the wafers. In CPUs it's fairly doable to trace the batches and sources them from friendly suppliers. In the GPU world however it's just the luck of draw.

Hi guys, has anyone updated their nvidia drivers? Mine won't update. It says that there is no compatible hardware in my system. I need help.
-
You cannot update drivers through Nvidia website. You have to wait for Acer to release updated drivers because they are customized.
Can anyone tell me how to use CPUZ ? I wanna check for throttling. -
You need to turn the videocard to dedicated in the bios. Maybe this helps.
-
Doesn't NVIDIA directly support mobile cards/drivers from the Go 7xxx series?
-
Nobody knows here how to use CPU Z?
-
There is no setting to select ''dedicated GPU" in BIOS unlike 4820TG. Only way to download updated drivers is when they are available through your Acer's support page because Acer have customized the drivers. If you download the drivers through Nvidia site and try to install it, you will get error that it's not compatible. It's like if you buy a Samsung phone through T-mobile, you have to wait for T-mobile to release the updated firmware and get can't it directly through Samsung.
-
There is one big advantage to getting an Acer over another brand:
a very active community here that gets down and dirty
I don't know how much longer I can wait Bronsky. I would pick up a 3820/4820 but I really want USB 3.0. I plan on owning this for the 6yrs I owned my previous Acer (TM 8104) -
Unless they started doing that in the last couple of months, that's not true. I've always updated through nvidia website. You're not "bound" to Acer drivers
-
yeah, i agree. i found a post in the net that says that there was something wrong with the installer. it appears that not all the card models are identified by the installer. Hence, they won't install for these cards even if it says in the site that they are supported. So it must be nvidia's fault. i'd wait for the next update then.
-
Not with my Nexus S
However... you could always try with a modded INI from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com as last chance.
Could a 4830 owner tell me what DVD model the notebook uses? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You could not turn off the integrated GPU and go dedicated only because all the display outputs are hooked up to the integrated chip.
-
i don't get the 3G connection mentioned in the timelinex website. is it supposed to be in my 4830tg?
-
Ya I know, certain phones work, like Nokia but if a carrier has heavily customized it then it becomes a pain!
I think it's a recent thing coz I was able to update drivers for 4820tg, but then it had ATI Video card. I spoke with Acer today and they said the same thing that I've to download drivers from Acer website, there's gotta be a way around it.
Like most laptops ,it's the same noisy Mats.h.i.t.a and the model no. is UJ8A2AS. -
I hoped it was a Lite-On
Mats h i ta = no bitsetting, can't change booktype
-
Hello, I bought a 3830tg-2314g12nbb, I would replace the CPU i3 with a i5, can you tell me if it is welded or socket? socket that is?
-
Hi all
I've been using my 3830TG (i5-2410, 540m gt, 4gb ddr3, 750gb HDD) for more than 24h now.
I may do a small review once I have the time to do so.
But I have a question to the owners of the new timelines.
1) Does optimus work flawless for you? I can force it to use nvidia when I'm gaming, but it doesn't kick in when I'm watching HD video on youtube or watching hd content in WMP.
2) I can't update to the newest driver from nvidia, I have to use the one from Acer. Can you guys update the driver? I tried modifying the driver with the app from LV2GO, but optimus didn't work.
Other than that, the i5 SB is really nice, definitely an improvement from the su4100 in my older 1810tz
-
^ I've 4830TG and NO, the Nvidia optimus is not flawless, it does not kick in while I'm watching HD youtube videos, but it does work if I force it. It's inconsistent, it reads mozilla firefox as integrated graphics. Play with the settings and you will get the hang of it.
-
I have to use both the intel and nvidia driver from the Acer website, otherwise it won't work. I updated igp through intel website, and I lost optimus... really disappointing if we have to wait for Acer to update the drivers... they're so slooow..
EDIT: I just realised I already have 5% battery wear
I've been using it for 2 days, without "overcharging"
-
n0elia where did you get yours from?
-
There's no reason for optimus to kick in for HD video, the Intel IGP is more than powerful enough to do youtube and HD video.
-
I could order my 4830TG tomorrow, I can't wait anymore for the new notebook... however it could be my last Acer product if they won't fix the throttling issue (same thing for other manufacturers that won't fix the issue on their notebooks).
-
The same question. Does anybody got throttling with the 3830T (without discrete gfx)?
-
Have you tried loading the Nvidia driver on dedicated only bios setting?
Bronsky
-
Somebody said that you can't disable the integrated Intel graphics
-
Only 2 options are available "integrated" and "switchable". This optimus thing is really hit or miss. Sometimes photoshop recognizes nvidia and sometimes the IGP, without me changing drivers or anything...
It's so lame they included an Atheros Wifi card instead of intel, now I can't use Intel WIDI. -
Yeah... and the Atheros doesn't support the 5 Ghz band.
I miss the Centrino times
-
Just buy an Intel 6200 off ebay I think they go for 17 bucks excluding shipping.
Acer doesn't whitelist WiFi.
I already ordered 1.
Can't stand the poor signal strength and throughput of Atheros...no wonder they got bought by Qualcomm. -
Is it difficult to install?
-
No- it's like replacing RAM module + connecting antennas which are push-click type so you don't need special tools nor expertise.
-
Just be careful with the single screw. It gets stripped quite a bit.
Bronsky
-
What about warranty when I change the wifi
?
-
anyone can help me then? Big Bronsky??
-
Out of curiosity does anyone know if CCleaner does anything to mess up optimus.
I'm literary ripping my hair out trying to get that thing to work. Feels like no matter what I do, everything still starts with the IGPU -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
CCleaner messes with a lot of things.
-
Yeah, optimus sucks. It's a brilliant idea but the execution is terrible. I just realized that the gpu wouldn't run if i'm not plugged in. Is there any way i can adjust this?
-
I had the same problem until I realized it was power smart manager that was diasbling it. Just press the "p" button on the right, and the light should turn off, and you'll be able to use the 540m gt
Is there a guide for Acer notebooks? -
great, i didn't notice that the first time. thanks a lot man!
-
Optimus is just a driver, right? Can it be uninstalled to allow the dedicated graphics BIOS setting to run as normal? Surely the Nvidia card must be usable somehow without Optimus...right??
-
^not really, normally its hardwired unless the manufacturer decided to implement both way switching GPU....
-
In a few machines, like some Lenovos there is exrta circuitry to allow the laptop to switch to JUST the high performance GPU. In most Optimus notebooks, this circuitry does not exist. The IGP and Nvidia GPU share a single frame buffer that is shared. There's not way to JUST run the Nvidia, it uses the output framebuffer from the IGP, so they have to sort of cooperate to make things work.

4830TG ordered
-
I have my 4830 TG for about a week now and Im really happy with my new Acer but one thing is really worrying me:
After 1 week and about 5 discharge cycles i allready lost 8% of the total battery capacity.
Ive read the battery heatlh with everest. Are these programs accurate?
Ive allready send an email to Acer about this probelm but I havent received an answer yet.
Can anyone tell me if this is really a problem or just something normal.
By the way I dont have any throttling issues even with overclocking.
I get about 10k points in 3d mark 2006 with easy oc. -
I got my 4830tg late april and I'm at 13%. let it burn, I don't care, infact the sooner it gets destroyed the better. they gave only one year warranty for the battery.
-
I would appreciate it if you could provide some real-time logging and images with Everest, etc. It's not really that difficult to accomplish; just leave the logging software opened while running something 3D intensive or benchmark. Then at least we would know that not all the new TimelineX laptops have CPU throttling and it would benefit everyone in this forum to know this.
P.S. I thought that Sandy Bridge CPUs were not overclockable yet or are you just referring to the NVIDIA video card? -
I've had my 3830TG for 4 days, and I'm already at 5% wear
Calibration didn't help
