Acer TimelineX 3830/4830/5830 T/G

According to: Acer announces redesigned Aspire TimelineX Series laptops, prices start at $599 -- Engadget

the 14" 4830 also has a dedicated number pad... but I can't seem to find any pictures of said model with number pad. I see in youtube videos of the 4830 (European) that there is no dedicated numpad. Does the US version really have it?

NVIDIA GeForce in the 14/ 15 model ?

 

4830 and 5830 are T models and 3830 is TG model, 4830T and 5830T comes with HD3000.

 

They have the T and TG variant of every size.

 

So far, only the 5830T has been listed on the Acer US site. Hopefully, we'll start to see all of the models in-stock soon. The press release anounced only the 3830TG, 4830T and 5830T for the US market. Interesting. If that is correct, we might finally get the 38x0TG in the US. That solves the problem of getting one with the bi-lingual keyboard. It'll be nice to be able to compare my 3820TG side by side with a 3830TG (maybe a side-by-side review as soon as Microcenter gets a display model in). After the success of the 4820TG here, I can't believe that they wouldn't import the 14" TG as well. It looks like Acer believes there is only a market for 1 TG in the US (Acer seriously needs some new marketing people). At least this time it's the 13" TG.

Just received an answer form the Acer support and they just told me to update the BIOS or to send in the laptop.
Seems like they dont know anything about that problem.
But Ive recognized that I only use battery capacity if I play games on my laptop while running under battery. For the last two days I havent lost any battery capacity so it seems like this would be the solution.
Is this a normal or a misfunction of my laptop

 

I agree because they are going to lose about 5 customers (Me and a few buddys) if the TG 14/15 does not come out in the US.

Yes with Everest and Battery Bar.
Everest is showing me 7% and Battery Bar 8%.
But I havent lost any Battery capacity since then. I really thinkt the fast discharge while playing games was the reason. Maybe thats too much for the battery.

 

Have you discharged the battery down to 5% or so then charged it? If not then the % lost may not be accurate.

 

Hi guys, I also have a 3830TG... Yesterday I tried installing Need For Speed Carbon (v. 1.2) and while playing at maxed out settings at native resolution (1366x768, using nfscres.exe) I found that the frame rate (monitored through Fraps) initially was quite high (about 40-ish), but suddenly it dropped to about 10 fps... Is this because of the throttling?

I don't really believe in the battery wear shown by such software as everest and battery care.

The first time I installed battery care was after the first time i fully charged my laptop. It showed 5% wear and i was really disappointed. then after a few cycles it dropped and yesterday it was 0% ! Today it shows 1,67%. I think it's gonna be ok after some recharging of the battery.

 

Could you suggest me some must-have applications for the new Acer? BatteryCare?

 

Now it's showing 9%!!! this is ridiculous... I'm calling Acer support tomorrow!

 

My battery wear level hasn't changed since I bought the laptop. It always show 2.08%.

 

It seems my battery is doing the same thing... playing games I can only manage 1.5-2 hours, and then wear increase... there may be errors in this observation, but nonetheless the number is increasing

so now what? I'm not supposed to game on battery because that will increase wear by 1-2% every time I go through a cycle while playing?

So actually after one week my battery is at 9% wear, and there's nothing I can do to revert it.. great

 

In the past, Acer has been known to use low-quality batteries but I had thought they were over that.

 

Now it's gone back to 6,37 % This is hilarious Will wait a few more days, and get through some more cycles and see what will happen

 

I know I've been asking quite a lot, but out of curiosity does anyone have a conextant audio driver that has stereo mix enabled?

Seems like the one acer provides doesn't have it. Already gone trough the inf and found a number of uncommented stero mix entries. Though not sure if it's a good idea to reinstall the driver with them edited back in.

It may sound a stupid question, but does the throttling issue occur also when the machine runs on AC power? Cause on my old Asus N10 netbook I noticed the throttling (from 1.6Ghz to 800Mhz, Atom N270 ) only when it ran on battery and I think it is "normal" because on battery the fan doesn't run that fast (or not at all) to save power so it can't cool down the CPU and GPU, therefore the CPU throttles.

Anyways, hopefully I will get my 3830tg soon (yes, I took the risk ) and let you know how it works.

I also read previously that a notebook cooling pad could help to avoid overheating, may I ask what brand would the user recommend?

 

Oh, and almost forgot, does the i3 version throttle as well? I know it's been asked before but don't remember if anyone answered it.

 

Ah i am a bit confused ( i think i asked this question i don't remember sorry) are the 14 and 15 " coming to the U.S with the NVIDIA Card also (TG)? if not i have to start searching for another laptop.

 

I just bought a 3830TG on FKI (Festival Komputer Indonesia, Indonesian Computer Festival in English).
Acer gave me an external DVD drive, 3G modem, and 3-years SuperCare warranty for free. The salesman also give me 3 vouchers (Rp40.000 each, approximately U$5 each) for accessories at Blink! Store (they sell laptop accessories). The story doesn't stop here, then I came to Microsoft stand, and they gave me a free Windows 7 backpack because I bought a Windows 7 laptop, and they also give an opportunity to take a lucky draw, and I got a Microsoft Mouse, for free . I'm feeling very happy today!

Should I do a first-time-8-hours-charge for this 3830TG?

 

No need to do 8 hours charge...

 

Only 3 models have been Identified as coming to the states so far. There is a 3830TG I5/540M, there is an I3 5830T and an I5-4830. Someone identified a 5830TG with a GT 520M GPU but I don't recall where that is.

The press release suggests more models are coming. The question is "how long"?

Just FYI, if you haven't updated from the stock driver to the latest nvidia driver, do it immidiately!

My WEI scores jumped after updating.

You may be thinking "old news 275.33 has been out for days" Well that's true, but I had problems with optimus, and I just got it working today The "problem" was the P button (powersmart). God I feel stupid

I didn't buy the 4820TG in hopes of sandybridge performance increase and battery life, but most of all the prospect for the possibility of a better screen.

NO they had to keep shoving their piece of crap 1366x768 resolutions all the way up to the 15.6" model ().
Acer (and everyone else) why you do this?

 

how did you update Nvidia drivers? 4830TG owners can't seem to do that from Nvidia site.

 

use the drivers that you can find HERE (read instructions you will need to update the INF file of the nvidia driver with the INF file that you can find there)

with ThrottleStop i'm able to play games with the multiplier on 15 (1.5ghz).
The gpu will go to 70 degrees celcius and the cpu's around 80.

I also tried it with the multiplier on 17 but after 15minutes my notebook just shuts off.. guess that is the internal protection mechanism so the thing is not overheating.. GPU was running up to 80+ degrees.

So 300mhz more then the 1.2ghz throttle you usually get is a push in the right direction with this nice utility.

I got the i3 version of the 3830TG.

 

I did the update. I noticed that i now have two nvidia icons in my notifications area. one is the Nvidia GPU Activity (the square one) and the other is the NVidia Settings (the nvidia logo). is this normal or do i have two drivers installed right now?

Received my 4830TG, nice looking, extremely fast (Intel SSD bundled).

The keyboard is a bit flexed on the left side...

 

after i compare jakarta computer festival with manado computer festival, i bought 3830TG with diferent price around $ 18 dollar and didn't get microsoft backpack.

i had a problem that i never used a windows 7 before, so i want to asked how to update my nvidia driver .

i already downloaded the driver from lingk above, but when i pressed setup, it said that cannot instal driver because cannot find the compatible driver.

anyone can help me. maybe by giving step by step information. because i'm newbie in windows 7

After you run the installer,
download http://laptopvideo2go.com/infs/275series/27533_win7x64/nvwi.inf and replace the file in C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.33\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver
then continue your install.

 

You can take the Microsoft backpack on Microsoft stand on the festival, just show your new Windows laptop.

I successfully updated the driver, after that, the NFS:Hot Pursuit does not lag anymore.
Just replace the INF file (somewhere in that folder which I forgot) with the INF file that is provided on that page. After that, run the installation.
Cukup timpa file INF (ada di salah satu folder, tapi ane sdh lupa) dengan file INF yang ada di halaman tsb. Setelah itu, jalankan instalasi

 

I am quite disappointed with the battery on my 3830TG, it last only 5 hours (no nVIDIA GPU use), turned on PowerSmart (that 'P' thing above the keyboard) half of the time, still far from the advertised 8-hours, or notebookcheck.net review. Is there any way to get more (7+ hours) of battery life?

And did I mention that the battery wear level increases about 2% every charge cycle?
Is there any workaround for it?

You have to use the battery some more, it will better with time.
My wear also increases, from 2% to 9% in just a few days, then it backed down to 6% and now it's at 8% again. I don't know what's going on...
And I've only had the machine for 6 days...
If it keeps increasing I'll call Acer support

Ok the wear is now at 10,22%... I'm definitely calling Acer support on monday

 

No "official" solution yet, but you can play with the throtthle stop program that was mentioned before or try to do some extra cooling like a laptop cooler, or liquid hidrogen.
