    Hello,
I got an acer tm 2420 notebook.
My original config was: Windows xp home, 1,85ghz, 512mb ram, 80gb hdd.
Two months ago i bought another 1gb of ram so it's 1,5gb now.
The memory was tested and passed the test i don't think that's the problem

About two weeks my laptop starts to overheat. I installed hdd health program and it showed me that my hdd temperature is 45 deg. celsius.
I don't know what to do, my windows freezes randomly, i checket the system events and it showed an error at system control manager eventid 7034,7001

I always keep my laptop on a desk not on my laps. The cooler is working.
I don't know, if somebody can help me...

Hello and welcome to the forums :)
Well, the 45*C is totally normal for a hard-drive.
Have you tried recovering the Windows ? (Warning : It wipes out everything on the destination partition so make sure to backup my documents and this sort of stuff)

I know operating systems. Yesterday i restored to factory default the whole system. And after 1-2 hours the problem started again. I didn't installed anything. I don't know what's heppening.
I just looked to hdd health and now gives me another error Seek Error Rate changed from -200 to -100
I don't know what that means. I mention that i got a 4200rpm western digital hard disk in the laptop

And what should i do about this?

I just saw that the seek error rate is now back to normal.
I don't know about this hdd health program. Can somebody advise another better one.
This program tells me that the predicition's precision is 25%. I don't know exactly what it means...

45 degrees Celsius while still in the "normal" operating range for most notebook drives is a little hot IMO, my drive runs at between 37-40c under normal circumstances and can reach a high temp of around 42-43c but only under extreme situations where the drive is constantly being accessed like in a complete virus scan or during a defragmentation process etc. Those seek error problems being reported can be a precursor to hard drive failure as others have suggested so start backing up your data if you haven't already done so, better be safe than sorry :) .

I don't know what HDD health program you are using but you can try HD tune which is a free hard drive scanning(using smart) and benchmarking utility. You can find it here.

The 120 GB Seagate Momentus in my Aspire 5684WLMi runs between 45 degrees C and 60 degrees C depending on the work it is doing and ambient temperature.

According to Acer technical support in South Africa (and these guys are jacked up) it's well within operating temps and conditions for a HDD in a NoteBook.

And I say again, your HDD is pending imminent failure. Do as Evolution says and back everything up NOW.

Hello, i just updated some drivers. Today all day the hdd temperature was around 40 degrees C. So it's okay i guess.
With this program HD Tune that Evolution advised to use, the rate error seek value is 100, but here it says that's ok. On the other program still popped up as a problem, I don't know now what to think.

Somebody advised me to buy a cooling pad for the laptop, that's gives additional cooling...

i have the same notebook as you do. i was experiencing some freeze randomly and it was fixed with a windows reinstall (alt + f10) to enter on the recovery program that will format the C unit only.

my computer runs real hot sometimes, i installed a program to manage the Vcore and the mutipliers so i can set the best for the sittuation that i need. i also did the pinmod that made my 400fsb pentium 1.7 to a 533fsb 2.26ghz. So thats why i need even more the program to manage the Vcore so the temperature does not go so high.

just reinstall the windows, you may have lost some important piece of file on a irregular restart and is causing all the trouble.

the thing is, that with my model it came a software called empowering technologies from acer and it does the same thing i think. These programs RMClock and NHC are better?

Those 2 programs will allow you more control over your processor. You ca undervolt (reduce heat output) and use varying CPU frequencies 1.0Ghz,1.2Ghz,1.4Ghz etc. Acer's empowering powermanagement doesn't allow you this much control over your processor so I would say yes they are better than Acer's software, but it is up to you to decide if you want to use them or not...

thank you all of your replies.
I tried the two programs. And decided to use RM Clock with acer's empowering techonology and also bought a nice cooling pad for my laptop.
It got 2 coolers, and it reduces the laptop temperature by 8-10 degrees. And that's very good. Now my laptop is not heating up over 30-33 degrees.

S.M.A.R.T. health status seems to be ok, i think the original program (HDDHealth) was buggy. I don't know for sure...i will know after 2-3 months :)
