Hello everyone - I am new here but it seems like you all have alot of good information for people.

What I would like to know everyones opinion of this notebook ...

    Acer TravelMate TM4021WLCi

    Pentium M 725(1.6GHz)
    5.4" WXGA TFT
    512MB DDR2 (533mhz)
    60GB
    DVD±R/RW Drive
    Integrated Intel GMA900 Graphics
    V.92 56K
    10/100Mbps
    802.11b/g Wireless LAN

The only 2 things that I see about this laptop that are not that great is the intergrated graphics and optical drive.

Here is the link the reason I am looking this so closely is because of price. 879 plus and 100 dollar mail in rebate ... So it is 779 shipped.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115314

thanks for your help .... :)

If you don't game, the card won't matter. What is wrong with the optical drive, it is a DVD burner? If you want a little better performance, I'd upgrade the hard drive to a faster 5400RPM drive. Throw the old on in an external case for extra storage or for backups. Keep in mind when buying at NewEgg, there are no returns.

Just means you can't pop it out and stick in another hard drive or battery. Last time I checked, Acer was using LiteOn drives, but that may have changed.

Don't worry about the drive being integrated - you shouldn't have any problems.

I believe Acer uses different optical drives for different models - the last Acer I had used a Samsung drive.

ok - well i am not to concerned about gaming - if i play games they are very minimal games not huge graphic hogs ... usually they are old games ...

so with that said does anyone see any reason not to pick up this notebook?

Depending on what you are doing on it, something like the Compaq v2000z might be worth a look. It has very good battery life with the 12 cell battery. You can customize one at HPShopping.com. I would recommend the 5400RPM hard drive for much bettery performance and 12 cell battery. It is around the same price as the Acer. Good Luck.

    hellow,
i've just bought this yesterday and it's quite impressing, though i bought it in indonesia and the spec here is not as good as other countries. my spec is:
    -Pentium M 725 (1.6GHz)
    -15.4" WXGA
    -256 DDR2
    -60GB HDD
    -DVD/CDRW combo
    -802.11b/g wlan
for US$919. it's expensive compared to other countries, but i can get a widescreen for just below US$1000 because there's no other vendor who can give a widescreen below US$1000 here in indonesia.

you seriously need a RAM upgrade. 256MB is just too little to do anything on XP SP2.
512MB is minimum for internet and some office applications. Otherwise you will be swaping all the time!

congrats on your new buy. Enjoy it! :)

I actually just got this laptop for a friend that needed a cheap notebook. I have to say im impressed for $799 Its well built like the 8100 series the keyboard is a tad less good. But the screen is nice and sharp not the fastet pc but it runs well and im comparing it to my asus w2v so im kinda biased. i would def reccomend this notebook for the price it cannot be beat by any means. i would just suggest getting a 8cell battery for it on ebay. I really am amazed at this pc for the price get it from newegg i just did really couldnt recommend it more. The only issue i seem to have is the wireless seems sluggish on it always connecting at different speeds to the same router but i think its a software issue so im gonna play with that till i get it figured out.

Good choice for a budget notebook! Acer really does pack a lot of features for the money, especially the large hard drive and nice screen. XP Pro comes on all the TravelMates - really nice.

Glad to hear you think it is a good notebook! :acer:

    I have a question about my TM4021NWLCi.

    First:
When i look at my BIOS settings, the Advanced Menu is LOCKED, there's no options when i pointed to Advanced Menu, there's only sez "All items on this menu cannot be modified in user mode. If any items require changes, please consult your system supervisor.

Any way to open this menu?a short-cut key or something?

    Thanks.

I recently bought a TM4021WLCi, and also noticed this. I called Acer tech support about it. The representative told me that, if I see this message when no BIOS password is set, then the unit doesn't have any of the features that would be controlled by this menu.

So, I don't think we're being locked out of anything. They could have put a more appropriate and informative message there, though.
