I would like to buy Acer TravelMate 6003LMi for my daughter, colledge student.
I would like to know what is the actual use of the DVI port ?
Is it possible to record movies from any movie source (TV or Video camera) straight to the DVD (same as with Sony Click 2 DVD), if YES, then how? or what is required to do it?
Fast response is highly appreciated

1. The DVI port is used for video output only. To connect an external monitor, projector or even a TV (digital).
Here's a link on what DVI stands for an what it is.

2. This unit has multiple USB 2.0 and one 1394 Firewire ports. The Firewire port is mainly used to digital video transfers from a compatible camera. You can also transfer video from a unit that has USB, but requires the camera to have this cable or for you to purchase a special cable.
3. On this unit, this will be the only way to transfer video into the unit. You can buy TV Tuner or Video Capture products that connect to the USB or Firewire ports. You can then capture video from TV, VCR or Video Camera. Burning it directly from camera to DVD will be dependant on the software's capabilities. You can capture to the HDD and then edit and burn the discs if you like. These devices range from $100 and up.
