I have an Acer TravelMate 8104WLMi that was once sent to Acer for RMA for an entirely different problem, and came back from them with something rolling around a new problem, where the video would have thick lines of video glitching or black through it and sometimes tapping the unit (not the LCD) would fix it.

The owner should have sent it back while it was still under warranty but they said, "I don't want to lose it for another 3 weeks and deal with this BS again, so I'll never buy another Acer laptop again..." Fast forward to today, the owner's purchased a new laptop and given this to me to see if I can fix it for his kids.

Now, I took the laptop apart to see if I could see anything or simply check the connections, maybe some fool at Acer just did a bad job. Didn't see anything obvious; unfortunately, in doing so, I somehow completely disabled LCD video altogether. Oops.

This particular unit has a sticker that indicates ATI Mobility Radon X700 for the discrete graphics and this is the problem now - the VGA port on the left hand side of the unit outputs video just fine, laptop works. However, the LCD display does not display video and furthermore, it does not output through the DVI port. The DVI port is on the same circuit board as the power connector.

Does anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, ideas on how I can cost effectively repair this laptop? Thanks in advance!
