ive been contemplating buying this notebook, but was wondering if the laptop comes with a lower storeage hardrive (80-100gb) and a higher rpm (7200rpm)? also can it be configured to only have 1gb ram instead? will acer be making laptops with Intel Pentium-M Yonah Cores? thanks.

also, general question is... should i wait for acer to make laptops with windows vista, so it can have media center functions along with better gaming abilities? thanks alot

not to mention, any1 know when vista is being released?

I think you can not pre configure like Dell or HP. The only configuration available at this moment is 2 GB of memory + 5200 rpm HD. I have one, and I am very happy.

Related to the Windows Vista, well, depends on your time frame, I think the release date will be something around the end on this year, of course, you can always upgrade from XP to Vista.

Windows vista is 2007. not worth waiting if you need a laptop soon.

The 8204 is non configuarable, unless you want to void the warrenty and install one yourself.

Vista was confirmed for a Nov. 2006 release date, but close enough to 2007 :)

Define Suffer? I've not noticed any issues with it, and in ripping 30 minutes of video suffereda grand total of 0 dropped frames, admitedly it was not HD video, but still given my old laptop with a 7200 RPM drive dropped frames, I'm not sure the 5400 RPM drive is a problem.

Attached the HD benchmark using HD Tach.

I use my 8204 to do software development (C++, .NET) and I have for example running two VMWARE sessions (XP and Windows Server 2003) at the same time without any problems.

Also I use to run PhotoShop CS2 or Nikon Capture to process 15Mb files smoothly. My old laptop I replaced the 4800 rpm with a 7200 rpm, and the overall performance was “almost” the same. On the other side is a balance between capacity (GB) and rpm.

I haven't noticed any problems that would be due to HD speed on mine either.

No problems with the HD speed here. I use it to capture HD video from a sony HC1 High Definition camera. No dropped frames capturing, and it will play the original video from camera (.ts files) smoothly before any furthur compression. Hope that helps you sleep easier :) Jim
