I am thinking about purchasing the Acer TravelMate 8210 but don't know what speed the memory will be.
ZipZoomFly states 533:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=265309&prodlist=cnet
and CDW states 677 (under ram):
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/specs.aspx?EDC=1058092
Is there a noticeable difference between 533 vs 677? Also, once I receive the laptop, how can I check which memory I got?
-
Use CPU-Z
Well, depends how much data you're trying to process. a 677 MHz has theoretically more bandwidth than 533 and thus transfer more data (but latency is also increased) -
hmm . i think the memory spd of the system varies according to the region. i got mine 8215 with 667 ram.

Aces, how are you enjoying your 8215? After using it, do you think you made the right buying decision? Would you recommend this system? Also, have you had any screen issues that other people have complained about the with 8204 model?
-
Ok, i ordered the 8215 and got it in today. I installed CPUz and this is what it says:

"333.3 MHz"
I thought it was suppose to be 533 or 677, someone please explain. Thanks -
My first guess is that the 333.3 MHZ is per channel, and because it is dual channel that adds up to 667MHZ, but I'm not totally sure about that. Someone with more knowledge can better answer.
How do you like the 8210 so far? I'm seriously considering and would love any comments or feedback you have about it.
Thanks -
Though, dual channel is something different. If you use Two soDIMM models of RAM with same size, latency and channel, you end up with double the bandwidth. (eg. if you use 2 x 1G 533MHz with same latency, you'll end up accessing RAM at 1066MHz) -
Unfortunately, I do have one dead/stuck pixel. I noticed it the mode on a black background. (It is white.)
I also noticed that it didnt came with the VoIP phone but it did come with software installed for it.
Also, I was upset with the screen's light leakage. I thought this only happened to a few models on the 8204 and assumed that they would have fixed it on the 8210. I am thinking about sending it back to get another model. But it dont know if I will just be sent back a new system with the same problem. What do you think? -
Otherwise I'm really happy. Also if you ordered after 10/26 the 8210 qualifies for free Vista upgrade. Mine actually had the printed flyer in the box, which I didnt expect. -
Mine had the printed flyer in the box too, even though I purchased mine on 10/21. I decided to return mine for a replacement. I was told a new order number would be set up for me sometime in November, so I should then be eligible for the vista upgrade.
Also, do you have any light leakage issues with your laptop. I wasnt sure if it was just mine or if it is a common problem. I hope my replacement doesnt have this issue. -
Unfortunately though, my dvd drive was bad. I hadnt even tried to use it yet when I first posted. I later tried to install office and the motor died inside the drive at about 45% of a MS Office install. I really like the laptop though, so I think I will go through Acer support and try to get it fixed instead of just returning it. -
I just received my 8210 back today from repair. 1 Week turnaround door-to-door.
The process was the easiest I've ever been through, and after using the new dvd writer for about an hour solid, I am happy with the results. No changes were made to anything I had installed.
Service wise, All I had to do was box up the laptop, Acer paid for FedEx 2 day shipping to TX Repair Facility (even scheduled the pickup), then FedEx Ground back. I received automated emails when they received the box, and when they shipped it back.
The original Mat****a (sp?) drive was replaced with a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082N .
