I have an Acer 2301 LCi with 256MB of DDR (PC2700) ram by Infineon. I went to some local computer stores to find a 512 ddr stick . I found an unbranded brand and a Samsung. With the unbranded the laptop didn't boot up and with the Samsung it loaded Win XP pro SP2 but it took ages ! We tried booting 3 times and the same thing happened. The ram was recognized but because in "My Computer " it was showing 768MB ram. Removing the new 512 stick XP loaded as usual . The store person told laptops need ram of matching brands to work correctly not like home pc's and its not the first time that this happened to me. Is this true ? We didn't run the Memtest program because I was in a hurry. I was highly recommended to get the same brand of ram that I had installed which is Infineon. Also in Malta where I live there is no authorized Acer reseller so I cant take the laptop to him to get it upgraded .

Did this thing ever happened to you ? Can someone point me out someone that sells Infineon ram online and ships worldwide ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The notebook should work with different memory modules, even if they are from different manufacturers. In the past, the case was that you should use memory from a reputable manufacturer. That way, you would be guranteed compatibility. Alot of motherboards, both from notebooks and desktops, needed good quality RAM.

Buying another memory module from Infineon shouldn't be that difficult. However, it may result in the same problem as some of the memoy you have already tried. try some more memory from some other manufacturers. Take the notebook to the computer shop, and ask them if you can check if their RAM works with your notebook.
