    Hi all,

I'm a newbie so please help! The fan on my laptop (see above) is getting pretty annoyingly loud.

I've looked at some of the messages on this forum, and have first of all, started 'ventilating' it by propping it up on things so that air can move freely underneath the laptop. Will keep you posted on how that goes.

Also, I've tried to update the BIOS on it, using the link to the FTP area of the Acer site. Currently, the BIOS version I have is: R01-A0R. I've tried to install the BIOS setup file from the FTP site but it wants a BIOS setup password. It tells me I'm entering the wrong one (but I know this password is correct because I've actually accessed the BIOS setup today using that very password, which I had personalised some time ago, presumably from the default). Does anyone know what the default password might be for this, or what sort of password the BIOS setup file might want?

Also, I've noticed 'mobmeter' being mentioned on this forum, to measure temperature of the laptop. How can I access this? Is it freely available?

Is there anything else I should try and do to reduce the fan noise?

    Thanks for your help all,

    maui
