I was given a second hand Acer Travelmate 2490. The laptop works fine via VGA port to another screen but the screen on the laptop does not work. When the laptop is switched on the backlight comes on but nothing is displayed. after a while the screen shows green lights in random places across the screen.

Could someone give me some advice on how to start working at resolving this problem.

The video cable or video chip is gone. Expensive to repair if you can find a repair service that will work on ACER. ACER no longer offers certified service within the USA
