    Hi,

I want to upgrade the hard disk of my Travelmate 3212 but not sure whether I need to use some specific brand / model of hard disk or I can use any brand / model available on the market.

What is the largest capacity hard disk I can use on this model ?

any BRAND should work fine.. capacity is only

but you do need to know if you have an IDE or a SATA type drive.... that is the major thing you must know.. if your laptop has an IDE type connector (44 pins arranged in 2 rows of 22 each) then you have to buy an IDE drive..

the TM 3210 has an IDE (also called ATA or PATA) connector..

the main thing is to get a 2.5" (notebook HDD) with an IDE connector,,, there shouldn't be a limit to the HDD size... if there is a BIOS limitation, there are programs that circumvent those issues..

CHECK YOUR HDD connector before ordering,,, don't just take my word,, i have no data on a TM3212...

    bigozone,

    Thanks for the quick response.

My laptop has a IDE interface.

How do I know whether my laptop has a BIOS limitation on hard disk capacity and if so how came I overcome it ?

don't worry about it.... it's not the problem it used to be years ago,,

but if for some reason your laptop cannot see the full size of your new HDD then HDD manufacturers have programs available on thier websites usually callled DDO's or dynamic drive overlays... but with your laptop you should not encounter any size limitation other than the limited sizes being manufactured

might check geeks.com for an idea of drive sizes and US prices

    Hi,

I am also having a similar question.

I am having Acer Travelmate 3212 with 60 GB PATA hardrive.

I want to purchase another hardrive with above 250GB size.

If my Laptop is having PATA, Is it compulsory to use PATA only.

Can I use SATA hardrive with my laptop using external case and connect it through USB ?

Which one will be best from SATA or PATA ?

    Please reply
