    Hi!
I am currently considering getting a notebook and was mulling over Fujitsu S6220 or Acer Travelmate 382.. Would appreciate if anyone could give me comments or reviews on Acer Travelmate 382 like its pros and cons and whether it is a value-for-money buy.

    Thx a lot!

The big differences between the 2 systems are that the Fujitsu has a 13.3" LCD & an integrated optical drive, while the Acer might not have an optical drive (possibly optional) and the screen is only 12.1". If you're looking for bang for the buck, you're gonna have to list the prices for both units, but generally, the Fujitsu looks better at this point.

Hmm.. what is an optical drive? Also, smaller screen means more cramped keyboard.. Would typing be a chore on Acer Travelmate 380?

    Thx..

The optical drive is the CD/DVD drive. It's best to get a unit with the CD/DVD drive built into the unit rather than an external/optional device.

The smaller screens will shrink the overall size of the unit and therefore make the keys on the keyboard smaller. Typing on the Acer may be more difficult, but it's all user preference.

From what I recall, during my research (I've now moved on to looking at other notebooks instead), I found that the Fujitsu has an Athlon processor as opposed to the Acer Pentium (dunno which). Does that make much of a difference?

Pentium M based notebooks will provide the most battery life vs all other CPU types. The new AMD 90nm processors come close, but still fall short, although the AMD 90nm processors provide much more computing power.

the TravelMate 380 has an external IEEE 1394 (Firewire) optical drive...maybe a little less convenient, but more portable. It draws power from the machine, so you don't need to carry around an extra power adapter just for the optical drive..hth
