i am having trouble with my acer notebook. it will not boot. i have followed instructions from their site to no avail?

    Product
    Notebook

    Issue
Power Issues or Will not Boot

    Solution

If the notebook does not power on:

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a ‘power reset' of the notebook.

    1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.

    2. Remove the battery. Keep battery unplugged.

    3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)

    4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY.

    5. Normally power on the notebook.

i had it boot today for about 2 minutes. i froze up again just as it did before i could not get it to boot. the battery is showing charged (green) and when i hit the power button the both lights flash briefly and then nothing is lit for about 2 seconds. then the battery shows charging (orange) for a minute or so and thens goes green again. could it be the power switch? because of the freeze up, does this indicate a cooked CPU?

    any help appreciated

You might try a deep reset. I don't remember if the battery stays in or not, but you can just try both:

    Do this:
    - Turn off computer
    - Unplug power cord
    - Take out battery (*)
    - Push the power button for 15 - 20 seconds, don't let go

Then, repeat the whole procedure with the battery in (if anyone knows for sure, let me know).

I had a 4600 which would not boot sometimes and crash at other times, and they told me to do that. It resets something in the power circuitry.

With my 4600, I had to have the entire mainboard replaced though.

If you are still under warranty, this would be a good time to purchase the extended warranty. My 4600 had loads of issues about 2 months before the warranty expired and I immediately bought an additional year - which turned out to be a very good idea because things just kept breaking from that point on. This 4600 was the worst laptop I ever had but I think most of the hardware failures were caused by the laptop just getting way too hot. I think that eventually fried the HD (twice) and the mainboard (once). The screen hinge broke all on its own though ;) ... glad to be rid of it...

thank you for replying. my first post described what you had been told to do with your 4600. it did not work for me. I'm thinking something maybe cooked as well.... MB CPU??? warranty is out so i guess i could look into repair costs and decide on another laptop from there. can the hard drive be pulled and plugged into an external case to retrieve files?

i sent my laptop in to http://www.vancouverlaptops.com/ . I am from Saskatchewan and basically i was only committed to shipping costs. they got back to me with a $230 quote to replace some MB component. that is with taxes in and in CDN funds.

i think the warranty work is good for only 30 days. anybody here ever had any experience with them or their eastern partner http://www.ottawalaptops.com/ ?

I'm thinking a $230 investment to keep this thing going for another year and then upgrade. DX10 GeForce 8800's and Vista are all new. Let the kinks work out and prices to come down as well, smaller gaming laptops are becoming more popular. I am looking for a 12" or 14" wide with a kickass GPU. hopefully if this Acer makes it a year, i can get into something like that.
