Seems purchasing a laptop is proving to be a rather big headache!

All the shops I've visited all have identical models on show (and not many different manufacturers/models either).

I nearly bought an Aspire 1682WLMi from Comet today, on the grounds that the lady on the phone said I could return it within 28 days as long as I didn't open the actual software seals. Went to their store and was given a stern 'nope'

Anyway, back to the PC to scour the net, I've stumbled across the Travelmate 4101LMi which, while lacking the widescreen, appears better in every other sense than the 1682 I mentioned, specifically:

    Radeon X600/64mb (1682=radeon9700/64mb)

    8-cell battery (1682=4-cell)

    and it's cheaper - £670 (1682=£718) so I could buy the laptop AND the 3-year C&R warranty for a mere £740...

However, just as I could find no reviews, etc of the 1682, I'm having a hard time finding any for the travelmate!

Anyone on here have one, or has used one? I'm planning on buying it to last throughout my degree (Physics), and tbh the X600 is just for a few games :p

I nearly bought a Dell Inspiron 6000 (thank god i didn't! decided against it when i realised the X300 isn't up to much) but now I'm leaning towards the Acer brand.

So, even if you don't have the mentioned laptop(s), do you have an Acer anyway? If so, what's their service/support like? Do they take ages to repair your laptop? Can you safely change the memory/hard drive and not void the warranty? (i'd want to get a 5400rpm without hesitation) My boss had nothing but praise for their service (mentioned buying a new keyboard outside warranty and it being extremely cheap compared to other companies)
