I've looked everywhere I can think of to see if there's a solution to this, so now I'm posting here to see if anyone knows...

Sometimes (not everytime, seems random) my laptop won't wake up after being put to sleep by closing the lid.

usually, I just have to tap the space bar a couple of times, and it wakes right up, but other times, there isn't anything that will wake it up ,and I have to shut it down (hold the power button for 4-5 secs) and restart it...

    Anyone know about this issue?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to NBR.

What OS do you use? What BIOS version do you have? Any errors when you log in after the forced shutdown?

This could be a BIOS issue. You may want to upgrade to BIOS v2.10. Get it from here.

ya. I'll definitely be back here again if I have any problems. I did go looking for various upgrades on the Canada site (that's where I am), and saw nothing about the BIOS... is the European site better for most of that?

Cool. I was just here: ftp.work.acer-euro.com/notebook/travelmate_4200/bios and wondered whether it would be worthwhile to update to an even newer BIOS.

Hmm when I looked at it, 2.10 was the newest??! I cannot open the FTP right now but normally upgrading to the latest BIOS always worth it because every update fix something or add something(or both).

Just downloaded BIOS 3.60.zip. I'll let you know how that goes. It was definitely running a lot faster with my ftp client (FileZilla).. no problems there.

Make Sure This Bios Is For Your Travelmate 4200 !!!! Flashing With The Wrong Bios Will Cause Damage And Cannot Be Repaired.

You did the upgrade to 3.60 ? If not let me verify it's the right one. I finally managed to connect to the FTP.

    I'll edit this post.

EDIT: Yes 3.60 is the right one for you. BUT if you think your system is fine with 2.10 and you don't plan to make upgrades soon - leave it this way. If you experience the problem again, update to the latest version and keep monitoring the system...

That's my plan. I'll definitely be back here if 2.10 doesn't seem to be working.

Thanks for all you help! (thanks for checking on that BIOS version too!)
