    Hello!

I'm new here, and I'm completely lost!
I bought this laptop yesterday (with Linux preinstalled) and I can't make my XP installation see hard disk at all! I've read on various forums that I should disable something related to SATA in BIOS, but I don't have such an option in BIOS... what should I do?
    would flashing BIOS help?

    thanks in advance! ;)

Does the BIOS have a setting that lets you change between ATA and AHCI?

If so, set it to ATA, otherwise you will need a driver disk for the installation

since I can't find option in BIOS, I'll try with adding these drivers to win CD, and we'll see if it works...
    thanks, guys (or girls?)! :)

embed sata drivers into XP install by using NLITE to make a custom CD

    search the NBR FORUM SEARCH

    search for SOULPASS ASPIRE 5315

the method works for any intel based motherboard

NEVER USE THE IDE MODE it invites an extra step causeing loss of performance and gives an additional step that can also be additional chance to have data corrupted... use the BEST FEATURES and the hardware as if was designed.... IDE mode on a sata drive is like running windows in safe mode

I have the same problem and understand the nlite software etc... But I have done some extensive searching on the net now for the SATAdrivers for the 5320, but all I can find is compressed packages with a setup.exe, I've also found (I think) a floppy creating driver. But NO clean cut driver ready for slipstreaming to a winxp cd. Is this to be found at all?

Please help. Trying to help a friend of mine. Would be much appreciated.

Nice, great advice. I will keep that in mind next time.
But I did manage to solve it in another way. I found the "floppy"-drivers on intels homepage.

They can be found here: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=17413&strOSs=44&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Professional&lang=eng

I slipstreamed them into an XP bootable CD using nlite, and it worked super smooth!
When I added the driver I just selected "Intel(R) ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" (based on what the controller was named when vista was running), and it worked perfectly. I think you could just select all the drivers too, but this worked for his Acer Travelmate 5320, bought in Sweden.

I would really recommend to burn a CD with the rest of the drivers here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/tm_5320.html

...because a lot of the drivers had to be installed manually (although I used a late edition WinXP-cd with SP3). Thanks! And hope this can help some fellow surfer out there :)
