Our home computer set up is three computers using a Cable Router. My wife purchased herself an Acer Travelmate (ATM) 5510, not realising that she had purchased a Bluetooth Notebook.
I suffer extremely from RF emissions that come out of cordless equipment, mobile phones, and the bluetooth on my wife's computer. My life has been turned inside out since communicating equipment have gone cordless, and causes me many problems. And I am not the only one who suffers from this condition, which is fobbed off as a mental condition.
I have "turned off" the Wireless Icon of on the desktop startup (bottom right hand), and when the computer starts up the Bluetooth light on the front console lights up, which is "turned off" by sliding the on/off switch. But, I am still having problems with the RF coming out of the notebook.
I went to Control Panel/Bluetooth/Setup, and each time I tried to change the setting to "turn off" ATM completely, it will not turn off. I click the box, and each time I try to "close" it, it refuses to switch off.
Now, whether anyone believes that if you turn it off on desktop, and by switching off the light on the front console, it does not turn off, because the RF coming out of my wife's Notebook is driving me up the wall.
Why won't it turn off completely, and how can I overcome the contrary default system by not turning it off completely internally.
I have a ASUS Notebook, which I can be turned off completely, then why is it that you can't turn the ATM 5510 completely off?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.![]()

if running VISTA,, it loves to hibernate and remain ready to perform a QUICK BOOT....
by doing a full SHUT DOWN,,,, (click START, (then mouse over the > next to the power button icon and a pull down type menu pops up with the option to actually SHUTDOWN
if you just click the power button icon to "shutdown", VISTA saves the HDD state then does a pseudo-shutdown. -
Thanks for your comments and help, but there appears to be a Catch 22 to this problem.
We are running Vista Premium OS.
On "Start Up", the "Basic Desktop" appears.
I clicked "START and the "Sleep, Shut Down, Restart, Hibernate MENU" appears.
So, what you are saying is that if I click "SHUT DOWN", it will turn off the Bluetooth completely. I am sorry mate, but after reading "SHUT DOWN" in our Vista Handbook, I am confused, and that sort of function isn't appliable as my wife uses the computer continually.
I want to "DISABLE" the Bluetooth completely, so it won't turn on at all on "Start Up".
On "Start Up" the right hand "Taskbar" comes up with "ACER E Network Connection", and the "WLAN" is "Disconnected".
But, the Bluetooth indicates that it's still "ON", as the front console light indicates such, and it's "Turned Off" manually by the "Switch" on the front console beside the light. But, even though the switch turns the light "OFF", I still believe that the Blue Tooth is still on. I want is disabled completely so that it won't "turn on" whatsoever.
I went into "Control Panel/Bluetooth Devices" and there was actually nothing to indicate how to "Disable" the Bluetooth. I then went to "Option/Connection/and unticked Allow BT Devices and I then clicked OK or APPLY, and it wouldn't accept that function.
I then went to the "HELP" for disabling Blue Tooth and the HELP said to go to Printers/Bluetooth Devices/Services/Disable, but there is no such function, as the BLUE TOOTH DEVICES folder is separate from the Printers folder, and has no "SERVICE" folder to "Disable" it.
There must be a function somewhere that I can completely disable the Blue Tooth, so that it won't "Turn On" on "Start Up".
Am I asking too much from an Acer Notebook Computer?
I can disable Blue Tooth on my ASUS Notebook Computer!
Thanks again for your time, mate.

if you go into the administrative tools menu (you may have to go through control panel to get to it) then open the services program, you may be able to set bluetooth to start manually (that way it won't start unless you turn it on) it is probably worth a shot...
