Acer ASPIRE 5520 Model ICW50. When I press the power button the light comes on and the fan spins but it shuts down every few seconds and repeats this action continuously. I have narrowed it down to a faulty motherboard. Has anyone been able to isolate the cause of this problem to a component or components on the motherboard?

    Hi and welcome to NBR.

Do you see something on the screen? Does the laptop beeps?

Tried to remove the battery and power it on using only the charger? How about with the battery only?

What was the last thing you were doing with the laptop before the appearance of this problem?

We have been repairing computers for years. Did all of the things mentioned. I am sure it is the motherboard. Nothing on the screen. It shuts on and off before it can boot. I need information on the MB component or components that anyone might have found to cause this problem. The laptop is an acer ASPIRE 5520. SORRY!

I have the same Acer with the same problem. Turns on and off! I have isolated it to the graphics chip. Remove the back center panel(4 screws) locate the copper heat transfer tube which starts at the fan, follow it towards the cpu, You will see a square heat sink just below the cpu, press on this upon startup and you may find the culprit. The problem is it is integrated into the motherboard so even though it is a $25.00 part it is not worth replacing. If this is your problem you can chech with a repaire shop and see if it is worth fixing.

    Hey Kevb1979..........
I tried your advice but was not exactly sure which part did you want me to press, the cpu or the green card integrated on the mother board? I did both. Even pulled out the copper pipe and all attached to expose those parts and tried with no sucess. I am trying to fix this for a student who needs it in 2 weeks for school. Any other ideas? I hate to believe the MB is dead. But It's an Acer. They have more problems than most I encounter.
