    Hi all,

My three months old laptop travelmate 6592 asks for time and date settings every time i start up. This matter irritates me.

There is usually no connection with the internet, therefore I switched off all the synchronizing options. I just want the machine to remember manually set time and dates.

I can't imagine the battery is allready empty, so there has to be another explanation and/or option to solve this i guess ??

    Thanx for any help.

Most likely the BIOS coin-cell battery has gone dead.

    exactly my thought Greg,

try going into setup and changing time there,,,

press F2 when Laptop first boots,, press right arrow to MAIN tab,, then time should be highlighted... change some info...
press F10 to save changes and exit... let PC boot,, see if time reflects changes you made... then shutdown (not reboot) the PC,, wait 5 minutes and reboot... it time has reset again you most likely have a dead CMOS/BIOS battery

if under warranty,,, Acer or the warranty provider should replace the battery at no cost,,, just the hassle of being w/o it for a short time

    later,

Thanx Bigozone for that easy tuto. Been able to execute your steps, but indeed after shutting off and 10 minutes it's 2006 again.

Called helpdesk and thoose peepz are awfull .... but they will pick it up as promised.

(they seriously asked if i couldn't buy and replace the battery myself after they confirmed it is indeed a warranty issue)

they are like that,,, i had a HDD go bad in my fathers Aspire,,, called up and told them i had made restore disks,,, and work as Tech,,, i just need a replacement,,, they sent one FedEX-2day,, just to keep from having to work on it themselves

glad we got the issue confirmed,, and atleast you are on the road to repair..
i'd bet you get it back pretty quick... as a tech i know the workers will pick and choose easy tasks when available,, and yours is the simplest of fixes so hopefully you'll get it back soon

Indeed out & in within a week ...

According to work order carried out work: Reflash/reset Bios. Reseated loose bios battery cable. Updated system bios.

Hopefully everything will keep working fine now. Thanx again.
