Hello is this motherboard failure? Acer Travelmate 7530 keeps switching off mostly when trying to install a program etc. Display goes blank and powerbutton light is blinking red, after pushing power button it opens at locked workstation mode (needs to use ctrl-alt-del to login again).

Tried to change all memory -- > no change, it goes off randomly.

Hello again it seems that installing Acer ePower Management (and Empowering Technology Framework) from Acer FTP-site solved the problem no lock-ups anymore.

Your issue seemed to be a non-issue. My guess is that power management settings were simply set to go into a standby after a set time (which was apparently rather short).
Acer ePower Management overrides windows power settings with its own so that probably changed the time standby is set to kick in if no activity have been detected.

Anyway - if the problem re-appears, don't worry about the hardware, it's just settings that need to be tweaked.

Strange thing that it was originally installed with clean xp and then formatted the c: drive and installed vista and the troubles begun, no problems arised when xp was installed.

ShutdownGuard might be useful program (prevents programs to shut down windows)

"ShutdownGuard tries to prevent applications to shutdown, reboot or log off your computer. When it prevents a shutdown in Windows XP, it will pop up in the tray and ask you if you want to continue. In Vista and Windows 7, you will see another dialog.

Note that ShutdownGuard will not be able to prevent all shutdowns, since some programs explicitly tells Windows to force the shutdown. This means some programs will still be able to shutdown your computer! "

Hope this helps somebody suffering accidental shutdown problems.
