I have the above mentioned laptop for some time now, and have recently been driven mad by the buzzing sound the COOLING FAN makes.

I have searched high and low for a replacement fan (ebay etc) but cannot find my model.

I know they are not expensive (just bloody hard to find  )

Could it be that another Acer model cooling fan would fit my model ?

They are so easy to replace that it is not a problem, just finding one is !!

BTW, I live in the UK.

    Any help greatly appreciated :)

    THX !

has it always made the noise, or just recently? if its just recently, try cleaning out the fan maybe there is excess dust

I had a similar issue with My 8204... Not so much noise as fan was running too often.

Simply put, the heatsink fins were partially blocked with a buildup of dust - thus reducing effective cooling.

Blow that out with an airduster, and not only will the fan not come on as often, but your machine will run cooler and probably faster!!

If you're even keener - some machines have CPU heatsink compound that expires and becomes less effective - (noted on some older Toshiba's) so replacing the compound may also improve things.
