Don't know if anyone is interested
But I modded the latest bios 1.28 for Acer Travelmate 8371 (13.3") . (Similar to Acer Timeline 3810TG) so thought I'd share it with you. May work on some other laptop models too.
- Latest Version 1.28
[*]"Switchable/Intel Only/ATI Only" Graphics options
[*]Has all advanced options unlocked
[*]Changed the FAN settings. Set the temperature to 52 C for fan to turn on, instead of 30 C like normal

Hope it helps someone.

Do you know if there is a similar BIOS mod for Timeline X 3820TG? I am very interested in Intel Only graphics option (I know that this means no HDMI but I am so tired of the autoswitch when I plugit)
-
Hey,
Sorry i am a bit of a noob, but will changing the fan setting damage the laptop at all, if it say stays at 48C for a long time, without the fan kicking in, would this damage it?
Thanks.
Waiting for my 8371g to arrive, cant wait. -
That's exactly what i've searched for! Does it work only on 8371G-model? I have the 8371 without ATI-graphics. The fan is still killing my nerves!
Maybe you can give me an adive how to mod the BIOS for 8371 without ATI?! -
OK, i've tested on my 8371-machine (without ATI). Now the fan starts his work a bit later. After 10 minutes of normal surfing through the web the fan starts (@ 38/40°C) and runs permanently @ 31°C !!! So the fan-behavior did not change when AC ist plugged
Curiously the fan stops when i switch off the AC-cable ... so i think it is not only a temperature-setting ??!
But now i have full access to the BIOS settings
Question: Can you modd the 1.27 Bios (it is not the latest) for the TravelMate Timeline 8471G, too ??? There i've the switchable graphics and it would be great to have the features you unlocked for the 8371. -
Thanks a lot for sharing!
That bios works perfectly on my Travelmate 8371, and I can now use the resume fonction without any problem with switchable graphics anymore!
Advanced options are amazing also.
I still ear the fan working when the laptop is plugged on, but it's not as noisy as before and not disturbing now.
Thanks a lot again for the release.

I will test on battery mode, as it lower the fan speed, and post results soon.

Argh. I have the 8471. I really *really* would like to adjust the fan to not go off at 30 C.
How can I adjust my bios as well? -
However, would you mind sharing the modding procedure for future reference, especially for the fan issue? Even just by providing pointers to somewhere else. Are you patching DSDT tables directly into the BIOS? I tried searching a bit these forums, but I didn't came up with anything useful.
I am needing this since I had to move to v1.28 from v1.17 to fix the battery-not-100%-charged issue, so I'm now bothered again by the fan...
Cheers. -
This will work with 8371 (without dedicated graphics) and the 8371G (with dedicated)
When laptop is plugged into AC cable the fan will still go on at around 35C. I can't change this however it is quieter than original latest bios.
When using the battery without AC it turns on around 51C. And turns off when it gets back down to about 47-48C. -
Hi,
excellent work!! Sounds great but I have the Acer 3810 and it says "This BIOS is not for your Notebook" so I cannot flash it. Probably I could change a value in the platform.ini to flash it nevertheless but I am a bit scared it might not work.
Any ideas of how to use this nice BIOS also on the Aspire version??
Cheers and keep the good work up!

I have the 3810tg , too. I was looking for a solution for the annoying fan for the last year! So i'm very glad someone could fix it.
Maybe you can explain how you did mod the Bios for the fan temperature. So we can mod the latest 3810 Bios for our owns.
Thanks
Bye -
Great work!
It's a pity you can't change the fan settings for when it's plugged in, I hardly ever run on battery
Does anyone know another way to deal with the fan when on AC?
This little machine runs so deliciously silent when on battery, why-oh-why does the bloody fan have to run constantly when on AC! Is there no way to trick it into believing
it's on battery all the time to keep the fan running minimally?
Cheers -
Hello,
I'm also very interested in this BIOS but I have 3810tg... If someone finds out to to work with 3810tg please post!
Thank you -
hmm any way that the bios for 3820tg may be modded to allow tweaking of the cpu/gpu volts?
-
I'm sorry I didn't reply sooner, but I tested this BIOS on my TM8371 and, while working as advertised, it does not fix charging issues with Simplo batteries that version 1.28 is supposed to address (i.e., battery is never reported as fully charged).
I reverted to official 1.28 bios which correctly fixes the battery problem, but now the fan is always on.
As I asked before, if the OP could share the procedure used to change fan activation temperatures, I could try to apply only that fix to the original bios. -
Im really tempted to use this, however i wonder for the reason that they changed it from 50C to 30C... Could be a problem with this? Anyone here able to report back from long term use of changed fan control?
-
@dragonuk:
PLEASE can you do the same for the BIOS-Version 1.27 from TravelMate 8471G I only need the unlocked feature to switch between "integrated", "discrete" and "switchable" graphics! No fan and temp-changes, only graphic-switch! -
does anyone know what
'Has all advanced options unlocked'
those options are ?
Many thanks.
I'm only interested in the cpu scaling and VT-technology. -
Acer 8371 BIOS is InsydeH2O and Acer 3820T/3820TG is Phoenix. The steps needed to mod 3820TG BIOS will be very different as these two BIOSes have a different structure.
On 3820TG you can unlock hidde menu with http://forum.notebookreview.com/ace...nix-bios-bios-mod-request-73.html#post6763651 and as far as I know there is no way to unlock "Intel only" option in the BIOS.
It should be possible to change Fan temperature trip points in DSDT table. -
I was wondering if someone can help me with this problem.
I forgot the bios password (i'm waiting for Acer to tell me how much it will cost to solve this), but this is not a "great" problem so I can use the laptop without problems as far as I don´t need to change bios setting.
The problem now is that updating the bios (opping "mod bios" will fix the problem) I lost the F12 (change boot device) option, so now I can't boot from USB pens or USB/dvd if for some reasons I have to reinstall the SO.
So my question is to ask plase, if is posible to have the same mod bios but with the F12 option enabled by default. This is enough for me and will save me the money in case acer ask for money I can't afford, and mean while i'm going trying posible passwords.
Thank you very much. -
The modded BIOS was installed and working great on my 8371, much appreciated. Battery life was better after turning off unwanted things and fans seemed to be quiet more of the time too.
However... I didn't manage to leave a working thing well enough alone and *had* to play around in the advanced settings in the BIOS and now I seem to have bricked the laptop. I think I set one too many CPU options to "Enabled" or "Auto"
So now when I press the power button, power light comes on, hard drive light blinks once, and then nothing happens.
Are there any magic key configurations for the Acer 8371 that would reset the BIOS on startup? Or is there some physical way to reset the BIOS to default settings? I didn't turn up any such things yet...
Edit: OK, an Insyde BIOS recovery procedure apparently might be the solution to similar problems with Insyde BIOS laptops. I guess it involves putting a BIOS file on a FAT formatted USB drive and performing some key combinations on powerup. But what combination is valid for the 8371, and what should the BIOS file name be?
------------------------------
Ahh, Fn-Esc and JM31X64.FD were the right combination for 8371 and this BIOS (I think... there were a few tries). Just writing this down for posterity - archives of these forums were most helpful -
I was wondering if anyone could help me. I have installed this but the options in the bios are all greyed out. The only thing I can edit is switchable graphics and nothing else. I cannot even change the 'access level' from limited to full which I undestand is required to do. But this is all grayed out. What can I do to have a full access bios? Many thanks.
