Hi guys, this thread was really just to praise my recent purchase - an Acer Travelmate 8371. If anyone is considering buying a 13.3" laptop, check out the following system...

    Acer TravelMate 8371:

    Intel® ULV C2D 1.4Ghz @ 1.75Ghz (SU9400, 3 MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)
13.3" Acer CineCrystal, 1366x768 HD, High Brightness, LED Backlit
    4GB DDR3 1066Mhz
64GB Crucial C300 SSD (spare 320GB western digital blue)
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 @ 550/750
    Win 7 Ultimate 64
    5-in-1 card reader
    3x USB 2.0 ports
    Webcam
    Bluetooth
    Fingerprint Reader
    8 Hrs+ Battery Life
    1.7Kg

    Total Cost: £440

The CPU runs at 1.4Ghz but there is a program you can download which overclocks it by 25% with no increase to the voltage. Stress tested with prime95 shows the CPU is perfectly stable at 1.75Ghz.

The GPU runs at 450/600 and using msi afterburner can be overclocked to around 575/780 again without touching voltage. I moved mine slightly down from here to 550/750 and stress tested with furmark to confirm stability.

The HDD is a 320GB western digital 5400rpm scorpio blue which I replaced with a SSD, gives the system a nice boost. The 320GB drive is in an enclosure and used as a storage USB drive.

    Performance:

    3dmark 2006 score ~ 3200

    Conclusion:

With it's solid build, high specs, great performance, low price, nice looks, great keyboard and slim design - I'd give this laptop a solid 95%. If it had HDMI and a spare 1.8" hdd slot, well it would be around 98%.

Best purchase I've made in a long time. :)

Is it a matt display? How do you like it. Do you know who the display manufacturer and model are? I wonder why they don't put HDMI in the Travelmate series.

Yes its a matte display, and I find the screen very good overall. Viewing angles aren't that great but that doesn't affect me at all.

There was another model Acer, the 3810 which has HDMI but also a slightly lower clocked cpu (1.3Ghz), no bluetooth and a glossy screen, AND it was £40 more expensive - I went for the 8371.

It is a pretty good buy especially because the TimelineX is out and this model is considered "old stock" but specwise it is definitely still very good and definitely more power efficient than TimelineX but lower performing.

You are correct, these are all unsold stock from 2009. The reviews I found for this laptop had it priced at around £7-800, it is now available for less then half that. :)

If I ever decided to swap displays, I would get a matt Travelmate display rather than the glossy Aspire 3820 display.

Until a few days ago I didn't have a chance of trying matte display, and now I'm totally in love with it. The difference is huge and I'm kind off sorry now I didn't think about that detail while buying a notebook.

Thanks mate, looking at your sig I see you have a TimelineX which I believe replaced this series?

How are they in comparison? Price? Any SuperPi and 3dmark 06 scores?

    Hi all,

The same configuration for around £350 in the UK here and here - it's a steal IMHO.

I'm almost tempted to buy one :)

    Sidenote: Vista inside

Thats the one. :) I got mine for £330 delivered from a different site but they sold out quite quick and then got more stock and now have it at £430. The SSD hdd cost me just over £100, so around £440 all in.

Hello! I just received today my: TravelMate 8371-944G32N (Part NumberLX.TTK0Z.001). I'm very happy with it but i can't live without 3g on it. Is there an optional 3g module available for TravelMater 8371 or my only option is a USB 3G Modem? Please help me. I saw there are the same 8371 with 3G modem inside. Thanks!

Acer does not put the extra PCIe slot in unless the model comes with UMTS from the factory. You will need a USB dongle.

Actually if I remember they should have a unused Mini PCIe slot under the keyboard just like the timeline 3810.
