I have an Acer TravelMate 2354 LCi and it is exactly enough for my studies. However, I think that I’ve got it with a defect. After I plugged the laptop in a weird and a very high pitch noise would start coming out of it. It would come out regardless of whether the laptop is turned on or turned off. I also figured out that the laptop was completely quite while I was working on a battery. I think that the source of the pitch waves was the place where the AC cable got into the laptop. The noise was so annoying that I phoned Acer Support Center and described the problem. On that very day they picked my laptop up and took it to the repair center. In two weeks they brought it back. They changed my main board, though I think they didn’t really examine the laptop. So, after I got it “repaired” I plugged it in and… the same weird noise came out again. BUT, this time it wasn’t as loud as it used to be. The tricky thing also is that now, after I boot it in, this weird noise almost disappears, so I can easily work with the machine. My concern though is with the cause of this problem. I mean if it is something serious, my laptop can again deliver the same loud noise very soon. I am still thinking that the main board wasn’t a problem. Otherwise why do I still have this noise (even though it is 3 times softer)? Or maybe all TravelMate 2354 mainboards have this flaw? Does anyone of you have had something similar?
I also never took the laptop apart and am not sure of what is inside of it that might cause this noise. Is there any “AC-adaptor-transformer” inside that might cause it? Do you guys think that was a really main board problem? Would you suggest me to contact service center again? But what if they change the main board one more time and the cause of the problem is not in it…
    I would appreciate any advice.

I would definitely contact the repair center. What else could you do?
I is possible that the adaptor does not work within the specified voltage/current range. This could be dangerous too. Send back the laptop and the adaptop for repair.

Keep in mind that the warranty for the adaptor is only 6 months.

Hey, are you talking about external AC adaptor? Someone has already adviced me to try similar AC adaptor from another machine like mine and to see of wheter there is a noise. But I can't find anyone with the exact adaptor now (the friend of mine with the same laptop will come back from her trip only in May). Do you think that external adaptor could cause this problem? If there is external adapror then there shouldn't be any internal, right? If I knew it for sure I would simply ask Acer to change my AC adaptor. Otherwise they can change something wrong one more time.
