I have an Acer laptop Travelmate TM2480 for 2 years now.

For past 2 weeks I've had the problem sometimes that the laptop doesn't turn on when I turn it on in the morning.

I turn it off properly in the evening, disconnect the AC adapter from the laptop.

next morning I press the on/off button and absolutely nothing. No lights nothing.

with just battery: no lights nothing
with battery and ac adapter: no lights nothing (it also doesn't show the light that it's charging)
with just ac adapter: no lights nothing

after some fiddling with taking out battery, putting back in, leaving it to rest....it suddenly turns on and works fine the rest of the day.

who has also had this problem and who knows what might be wrong and what the solution is??

thanks. taking it in for repairs is not an option, no more guarantee left. I make a backup every time now before I turn off the laptop.

try this, remove the battery and unplug the power cord. Press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Reattach the battery and the power cord.

I have a 2 yr old Acer Aspire 3260 that has the same problem. Over the last few days it went from being able to get it to turn on to not going on at all. I have tried the reset (holding down the power button as mentioned above) but it doesn't help. Could it be in internal power supply failure...?

    instead of shutting down completely.
place pointer over standby and hold down shift.
    standby should change to hibernation.
select and leave for ten mins then try starting.
let me know if this works.

hoggie, thanks for the reply, but how am i supposed to place pointer over standby if laptop won't turn on at all.

you're saying everytime i want to turn off laptop, i should not turn it off but do your procedure? then in the morning i won't have the problem?

i had it this morning again, it seems to be a morning thing with my acer....nothing , no lights nothing. i listened to adapter and it was zooming on inside. in the end after trying taking out battery, cord etc...it turned on again after 40 minutes in agony. it seems to be telling me it just wants a good nights sleep.

do you get a charge light when laptop is off and the power lead is plugged in ?
are you sure you have power coming from your charger unit ?

ok now it seems to be going from bad to worse.

yesterday laptop wouldn't turn on for couple of hours in the afternoon.

now this morning it's also not wanting to turn on!! this is so frustrating.

as said, no lights on the laptop at all, with battery in it no light, no charging light when ac adapter is attached. just ac adapter without battery won't do anything either.

also the 30 second reset trick seems to not work. but usually after a while somehow it turns on again.

gonna wait until the shops are open and go to computer shop to check if they have an acer ac adapter to check if that is the problem.

meanwhile, any help or thoughts from your side would be welcome. if it were the motherboard, wouldn't it be off permanently?? mine works fine once it turns on...

an intermittent fault on the motherboard say a capacitor that is slowly failing could cause just the type of problem you are descirbing...

so don't assume it's not a hardware problem with the motherboard just because it works good WHEN IT WORKS

wish i could give more advice....
