Hi everyone,
Few days ago I bought Acer V3-571G, I searched for owner thread, but didn't find one. So, I thought I should start one for all Acer V3-571G owners.
Main Specifications:
CPU: Intel i7 3632QM
GPU: Nvidia 730m (4 GDRR3)
RAM: 16 g.
HDD.: 1 Tb.
Display: IPS FHD (LG Philips LP156WF4-SPB1)
- First of all, the laptop has average build quality, but with annoying glossy surfaces (lid + palm rest).
- the keyboard is O.K. with good feedback but not excellent as some time key press is not registered. and no backlit option.
- touch pad (Elan smart pad): for me it is not that smart and despite lowering sensitivity setting, frequent accidental tap/click is common. May be some future update will address this issue.
- Display is FHD matte IPS display, it is the main reason I bought this laptop, and it didn't disappoint. it deliver good quality and color production, despite that it is not high color gamut panel (I think it is 60-70% color gamut), but I didn't find any specific data about this model.
- the laptop come with conventional 1 Tb. HDD. (Toshiba MQ01ABD100), it is silent and cool HDD. (temperature didn't exceed 44 C) despite working in hot temperature. this model don't have mSata slot, so no option for mini SDD. the only other choice is to replace HDD. with SSD. and use HDD. in a caddy.
- The CPU is Intel i7 3632QM (2.2GHz) turbo boost up to 3.2 GHz. it provide excellent performance and low temperature output (TDP of only 35 Watt) rather than (45 Watt for 3630QM).
![]()
- The GPU is Nvidia 730m (4g. GDRR3), provide efficient performance despite being supplied with GDRR3 and not GDRR5. I'm not a gamer so no real game performance is available but I tried 3D Mark 2011 and the score is a decent P1975.
![]()
- Battery life is average at best, a single charge can last 3hrs. for minimum brightness and wifi surfing.
- Now came to my biggest disappointment, sound quality![]()
, I never expected the sound quality to be this poor, despite being glorified by Dolby Home Theater logo, but the quality is really poor even after using DFX Audio Enhancer the sound is not convincing and weak. My two years old Hp dv6 with Beats Audio has much better sound quality. Why Acer opted for such low quality speakers is behind me. if they include a good quality speakers, this model will be a perfect multimedia laptop.
- This model come with only DVD option and no Blu-ray option is offered.
- Temperature seems to be not an issue in this model, during idle and light web surfing CPU temperature is about 44C, and during maximum load using Prime+Futuremark, the temperature is quite reasonable (CPU around 81 / GPU 72) and no throttle problem is detected. My older hp dv6 have much higher temperature records (reach 94C during maximum load)
- The laptop came with Windows 8, it has many annoyances, i.e., no start menu (had to use 3rd party software), no default DVD support, and annoying Metro interface. Acer did install only few trial applications such i.e., McAfee Internet Security, Office 360 .. etc. but can easily uninstalled.
My final thought, is this laptop is a very good multimedia / gaming laptop with few minor negatives:
1. Poor sound quality, so an external speaker or headphone is a necessity.
2. Annoying lid + palm rest glossy surfaces.
3. Only 3 USB ports.
4. Bad location of power button (very near left edge) and sometimes, accidental press lead to sleep / shutdown.

wkbag,
I just got an Acer Aspire E1-571-6888, which has Windows 8, i3, 500G HD and 4 G memory. I think this works just like your model since the new bios release 2.15 is also for my model. It works fine, but I can't get the boot menu to come up. I have gone into the bios, and enabled the boot menu, but when it comes up it only shows the Windows Boot Manager (Hard drive). How do get it to show other options? Do you have to change the order of the options and put them ahead of the Windows Boot Manager? Have you ever booted your Win 8 from an external drive under UEFI and secure boot?
Thanks for any input.

just follow these steps:
Accessing the UEFI (BIOS) setup on a Windows 8 system
regards, -
wkbag,
Thanks for the reference to the Acer site. I looked at many of the documents there. However, as I stated, I was doing it per the steps. I went into the bios, and enabled the boot menu. I then restarted, hit F12, and the boot menu came up, but only showed one option which was Windows Boot Manager (Hard Drive). Is there some thing I am missing? Has anybody actually done it?
Thanks
Maxgle from CA -
1. in windows go to " change pc setting"
2. then " general"
3. advanced startup
4. restart now
5. troubleshoot
6. advanced options
7. UEFI firmware setting
8. restart
Now the laptop will boot to bios setting
if you wish, you can change bios from UEFI to legacy bios in the boot option.
hoping this will help u.
regards, -
wkbag,
Thanks for the reply. All those steps get you to the same place as a restart, then press F2 as soon as the Acer comes up. That get's you into the bios. Once you get into the bios, you enable F12 boot menu, then hit F10 save and exit. Then after restarting again, hit F12, and you get to the boot menu, but the only option is Windows Boot Manager. Has anybody tried this and been successful? I would sure like to know how to do it.
Thanks

Wkbag,
Yes, I can change to legacy bios and get it to come up with a boot menu, and get it to boot up. However, with a regular boot up, you can't see the hard drive since it is a gpt disk. I have a UEFI USB boot stick that boots up to Easeus Todo backup that can recognize a gpt disk. Then I can select an image to restore to my hard drive in the Acer if I needed to restore. However, if you can't select something to boot to in UEFI, this is useless.
I also have a Toshiba laptop with windows 8. It also has UEFI, and a boot menu. In the Toshiba, you disable secure boot, then restart, and go to the boot menu, select your device to boot from, and boot up in UEFI from the USB boot stick . I think the Acer is useless without the ability to have a boot menu in UEFI. There must be some way to boot up in UEFI from a DVD or USB boot stick, but so far, I can not see it.

I have booted from an USB stick containing Ubuntu. Before you access the BIOS or boot menu the bootable media had to be plugged in. In my case, plugged the stick before restarting/turning on the system, hit F12 (must be enabled from BIOS) and the media showed up as USB HDD. I didn't need to change to legacy mode. Also try to plug it into the USB 3.0 port.
However I have another problem with it. The USB 2.0 ports seem to be turned off. They charge any device I plug in. If I connect a smartphone it sees the PC but the PC sees nothing. No problems reported in Device Manager, everything seems to work ok except that it doesn't want to connect to anything. the 3.0 port works perfectly. That's why I tried to boot up in Linux, they don't work there either and all the troubleshooting there also reported that all components are working... -
wkbag,
OK, I got it to boot in UEFI with a DVD. The Todo Backup program came up and I could select an image to restore. However, you must have a bootable DVD in the drive before you start, otherwise you will not see anything in the boot menu. I could not get it to boot using a USB boot stick. By the way, I have not upgraded the bios to version 2.15.
On my W8 i7 Toshiba laptop, it would boot from the DVD or the USB boot stick. You just turn on, hit F12, the boot menu comes up, you put in the DVD or the USB boot stick, select the one you want to boot from, and boot. A much more friendly bios.
But at least I could get it to boot in UEFI. Now I have to figure out why it won't boot from the USB stick.

Are those darker areas on a white screen normal? I got exchange my screen and it has zero backlight bleeding now, but I am not sure if this inconsistent light on white screen is under the normal limits?

100% Brightness:
This is on dark screen , after two replacements, finally good enough..:
@wkbag, could you help me one more time with camera shot of your screen in same conditions, please (white google screen)? This is pure lottery with those screens...

Hello guys,
I am the owner for more than a year of V3-571G , version 3610QM + 640M + 4GB ram (now 8GB) + 750GB HDD +Win 7, this laptop has an amazing price/performance (I bought it for 580 euro). I also added a modified bios that allows you to unlock the Advanced and Power menu (in non-UEFI version V.1.XX) and a modified vBIOS that allows me to overclock the GPU over 1200Mhz, so as to get an amazing 3062P 3DMark score of 11:
One of the negatives for me is definitely my 1366x768 screen, so a bit of time I'm going to replace my LCD panel with the IPS FHD version. The version of this panel (added in V3 Maii) should be this:
LP156WF4 SPB1
I also have to replace the LVDS cable with a version which supports the new panel.
I would love it if someone could confirm the model and maybe post a screen of AIDA64 like this:
Thanks in advance for your help! -
@wkbag
Thanks for the photo,my friend!
Because it is not very visible on the picture, can you confirm that the screen is a bit darker on the right down corner?
I replaced two already (backlight bleeding and bad pixels) and every one of them was a bit darker on right-side.. -

Anyways, no, that's not possible for us since we're on bios v2.x, it's only possible on bios 1.x.
If your laptop came preinstalled with windows 7, then bios 1.x comes preloaded.
If your laptop came preinstalled with windows 8, then bios 2.x comes preloaded.
You can only upgrade from v1 to v2 (though this is only possible if you hex edit the v2 installer since it's not officially supported), any attempt at downgrading from v2 to v1 is met with errors and there are no workarounds.
This is important because you can only flash to the unlocked bios with advanced options if you're already running 1.x. It's super easy, just run the modified bios installer.
If you try to run the modded v1 installer while your computer is running v2 then you simply get the same errors you'd get if you were downgrading. If you instead modified the v2 installer so that it flashed the unlocked v2 bios and tried using that then you'd run into problems again, with secure boot and all that jazz. It seems many people have tried to work around this but nothing so far.
(For anyone with firmware 1.x, you can grab the unlocked 1.13 bios firmware here: [Request] Acer Aspire V3-571G, Bios 1.11 )
If you're interested, I've got a bunch of links saved that might be useful.
At this point I'm just wondering about the pin configurations and how all that works out. The default 768p screen has a 30-pin connector at the back side but the 1080p screen has a 40-pin (I think?) that appears to be on the bottom, and of course I've got no idea how many pins are on the motherboard side of that cable... (I counted ~40 using the picture inside the service manual, but that was really pixelated) -
Acer added driver support for windows 8.1:
Acer | Download
I actually updated to 8.1 and had to reinstall bluetooth driver to get it to work, Elantech touchpad seems to have better driver (resolved over sensitivity issue), lastly, both Intel and Nvidia drivers are old versions. -
Is itpossible this V1.13 installer to brick my laptop? I am on official 1.13.
And what is the way if I want to go back to the original one? -
Acer released new Bios V.2.17
-
Yes, but it isn't possible to upgrade it if you are on 1.XX bios.
2.X bioses are only for machines with preinstalled Win8...
Very stupid ... -
For the record, I've tried flashing my bios from official 2.14 down to modified 1.13 and the laptop went dark, but it automatically detected something was wrong and reloaded the factory bios - so I think (though I may be wrong) bricking it takes some effort. And of course if your warranty hasn't expired you could send the unit back for repair.
(Third option is some crisis utility disk that's mentioned in the hardware manual but no one knows anything about it.)
Doing this isn't officially supported but someone made a guide for it here ( Catch Tito...: How to update to 2.x bios from 1.x bios (applicable for Acer\eMachines\Gateway\Packard Bell) ), though I'm not sure which 2.x bios he modified to get it working. To be clear, no hardware issues are stopping you from upgrading to 2.x, but acer and insyde have made the bios utility prevent you from doing so anyways to avoid potential issues (confirmed in acer forums).
When you upgrade to 2.x, you are stuck on it because 2.x implements secure boot (which is just here to bother us) - so I recommend that if you're going to 'upgrade' your bios: to not use 2.x and instead flash to the modified 1.13 version I linked to earlier since this one lets you play with hidden advanced settings like fan control/clock speeds. -
New Bios V. 2.17
-
anyone tried the new BIOS?
I'm currently on 1.13 and I'm thinking of upgrading to 2.x version of the BIOS and I'd love to hear from people who have done it.
I've got the i7 3630QM and GT 640M variant of the 571G and I'm running Windows 8x64
I sometimes have the issue of the laptop completely freezing for some 10-20-30 seconds. Doesn't happen too often but it does and it's annoying.
Also, could anyone tell me about their normal temperatures? My laptop runs at around 57*C when just browsing the internet (balanced power settings). -
All temps you get are normal , but you won't be able to flash the new bios with the native flash program if you have 1.13 now.
You have to force it in DOS mode and you won't go back to 1.13 anymore if needed.. -
Okay, I'm still on the 1.13 BIOS but lately I've been experiencing some serious freezing issues.
When the laptop seems under I/O load, it seems prone to freezing and then waking up with some beeping noises which is concerning.
I am still under warranty, so maybe I should go let it get checked out?
Anyone else experiencing freezing issues with their 571G at all?
Really kinda concerned... / :
edit: Also, really a serious question, would I gain some stability fixes or anything from upgrading to 2.x BIOS? They are newer so there must be something getting upgraded there.
I don't really care about messing with the advanced options of the BIOS so, would I have anything to gain? -
currently I'm using the new version V. 2.17 -
Bit the bullet and updated to version 2.15, a same that my friend has. Fast testing revealed increased performance in LoL and Dota 2 with lower temperatures.
Usually temps were at around 95, now they kept under 90, which is an improvement. I'll still get a coolingboard for the lappy soon.
So... To bite another bullet and update to 2.17? -
-
I used this guide: Catch Tito...: How to update to 2.x bios from 1.x bios (applicable for Acer\eMachines\Gateway\Packard Bell)
I just opened the .exe in a hex editor (in my case notepad++ with a hex-editor plugin) and edited it.
Updated to 2.17 now. Hex editor is no longer needed since I am already on v2.x bios. Seems like even battery lasts longer with the newer BIOS (used to get nearly 4 hours with power-saver, just browsing internet. Now it shows about 5 hours of battery left)
I didn't need to reinstall windows, since I am running Legacy BIOS at the moment, but I will soon reinstall to benefit from the UEFI boot and so forth.
edit: Nifty trick I read from another forum (I did a lot of research before trying this out). To disable secure boot in UEFI mode, you have to set a password (I think it was supervisor password? Not a user password but the other option). Once you have set a password, you can disable secure boot. -
Do I need to reinstall my current Windows 7 after applying this update?
I did'n get it about the password, could you explain me a bit more, please? -
I don't think you have to. I am not sure. If you stay in the Legacy BIOS mode.
UEFI features a thing called Secure Boot, which blocks installing other OS's. It can be disabled by setting a BIOS supervisor password and the disabling it. -
So basically all I need to do is after installing 2.17 and upon the first restart - just to enter in the new bios and to set Supervisor's password which will allow me to disable the secure boot, am I right?
Then my Win 7 will start just fine?
EDIT:
Ok, I pulled the trigger and did it
All went smooth, lower 3DM 06 scores , but higher 3DM11 -
Guys, don't you thinlk that, based on the reviews- the screen of V5-573G is better IPS than ours?
I saw the notbokjcheck 's review and the contrast , also the black value are way better.
I think I am gonna try this AU Optronics, used in V5 on my V3... -

Hello,
Do you know is there is any possibility to switch to a backlight keyboard on the v3-571g ?
Thanks ! -
Hi, I also am looking at upgrading my screen, done the CPU from i3 to i5 sofar with perfect success
can you recomend what LVDS cable is needed? or the hack to add the extra lanes? thou i think adding extra wires will be very much a miss as the connector is so small. -
Is it possible to upgrade the gpu bu changing motherboard??...mine comes with nvidia 630m and i5-3210m and i was wondering where i can get an acer v3 motherboard with the nvidia 730m or better
Sent from my C2305 using Tapatalk -
I guess changing the motherboard would do it. But that's basically changing the whole system so... yeah.
-
I just picked one of these up.
Arrives on the 11th, I'm so excited! I can't wait to have something that can play modern games. -
Hi everyone
i've got this notebook too, but i can't figure out if my version(v3 571g with UEFI bios) can handle an unlocked bios like the normal version without windows 8 and this UEFI..anybody knows?
-
^ I'm no help with that sadly.
But, I've been doing my googling, and what is the REAL max RAM this laptop can handle?!?
Everyone states something different...
