Yep. Exactly as I predicted. The 1050 Ti is a perfect fit for this design.

I am considering to buy one but i have my doubts because of the lack of gsync. How important is gsync in a gaming laptop? Really like the more subtle design and that it seems very quiet

Acer Aspire V17 Nitro BE
Although our test model of the Acer VN7-793G (also called Aspire V17 Nitro) "only" features a GeForce GTX 1060 and a quad core processor without Hyper Threading ( Core i5-7300HQ), the 17-inch device took the lead. Apart from a fair price performance ratio, its pros includes the stylish case and balanced components. Gamers might be happy about 16 GB DDR4 RAM and the SSD/HDD combination as well as the sophisticated interface layout including Thunderbolt.
With 1920x1080 pixels, the resolution of the WLED displays is appropriate for the performance of the graphic card. In addition, the V17 Nitro is very quiet and slim (2.5 cm) for a gaming notebook and delivers above-average battery life. There are hardly any points of criticism (maintenance could be better). Thus, we can unconditionally recommend this laptop.Last edited: Jun 3, 2017 -

Unboxing Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-793G

That cooling system seems terrible. 98*C! That's a kettle.

Got the VN7-793G recently.
So, the contents of the black box with "Nitro V17 Black Edition" turned out to be not that bad at all.
Configuration:
17,3" FHD IPS
Intel Core i5-7300HQ
16 GB DDR4-2400 CL17 RAM (8 from factory, 8 added myself)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
256GB SSD (Intel 600p) + 1TB HDD
FHD
Fingerprint sensor
Backlit keyboard.
So, technically it should have been as in NBCheck's review of an i5+1050Ti model - no tobii, good thermals and a 52,5 Wh battery.
Disassembly proved different. The battery is 69Wh, as in versions with higher perfomance.
Hardwarewise everything is pretty much as in that very review - laptop is pretty quiet and, though warm under full load, not excessively so.
Graphics card goes full turbo and never exceeds 74 degrees Celsius even under continuous gaming load, CPU, if not overtaxed, is at about 86 degrees and full turbo.
However, the CPU under excessive load along with 100% GPU load (continuous 100% for 5 minutes or more - ingame stress-test) can reach 92 degrees Celsius and float between base and turbo frequencies.
Keyboard is good - though the layout is not my personal favorite, it is rigid, has a decent feedback and the red backlight doesn't look bad at all.
Screen is slightly off neutral 6500K - there is the slightest tinge of blue noticeable if you are used to a neutrally calibrated screen. Colors are good and nothing to complain about, as is contrast, though I yet have to rent a colorimeter to measure everything properly and calibrate the screen.
Sound is rich and full, just don't forget to turn the Dolby settings on and autoleveling off.
Haven't run battery tests excessively yet, though first estimations would be about 5,5-6 hours of FHD video viewing or 5 of surfing.
UPD. 22.12.17 - replaced stock thermal interface with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut to keep the CPU on stable full turbo under full load.
Goal achieved, temps down from 96-97 Celsius to 80-81, max 99 and 83 respectively.
GPU max temp decreased from 75 to 72 degrees.
UPD. 02.01.18 - after thermal grease burn-in full load temperatures are 87-89, overload peak - 91 degree, GPU peaked at 79. Full turbos, no hiccuping.Last edited: Jan 2, 2018sicily428 likes this.
