    Hi,
I ´ve bought an acer aspire 1692 and an warranty extension (3 years + accidental) before 10-11 months.
At the end of October 2005, I first noticed that my laptop freezed before entering BIOS. Unplugging and repluging the battery solved the problem for the first time.
At November 2005, problem appeared almost everyday. So I decided to use my warranty and send it to Acer Service.
With Acer Advantage, Acer must fix the problem within 5 working days, as described by the warranty terms and conditions.
When it came back from Italy, it came with a report that it said that they have changed mainboard. When I tried to boot it, the known problem appeared again (at the first boot, it didn´t entered bios).
I tried several things, like working with AC adapter without battery, and sometimes it "unlocked" and I could boot. But even then, on a very common basis, it hanged up unexpectedly (with a blue screen @ win or it just freezed @ linux).
So I resent it to Acer Service at Italy. When it came back for the second time, problem appeared again (i don't remember if it was at the first boot, but it existed). I asked acer for replacing the laptop, or give my money back, but Acer Greece through their replacement department denied it. They suggested me to send it at Greek Service Point (not Acer Italy, but MDI - official acer service center). So, for the third time (it was January, 2 months without a laptop) my laptop was travelling without me.
After 2 or 3 weeks, there wasn't any progress, so I asked again Acer Greece for a replacement or for my money back.

At the end, (after I've done RMA my old laptop - 2 or 3 weeks procedure) I can buy a laptop at the amount of money that I have spent. (1250 euro).
They said that if I buy an Acer, my warranty could be "transferred" to my new laptop, otherwise (if I buy for example an Asus) I would loose the 180 euros of Acer Advantage warranty.

Of course I think that is very risky to buy Acer again, with this kind of service support. (I am 4 - 5 months without a laptop).
Do you think that is reasonable to ask for my warranty money back?

Thank you for reading this, I would be glad if you'd post your opinion :)

ps Sorry for my english, it's not my native language ;)

If you are willing to give Acer another chance then I say go for it and see how it works out this time. Getting a lemon is always a possibility with any manufacturer. Unlucky for you it was your bad luck.

If you are still not convinced about Acer's reliability then get the Asus, if it offers you better peace of mind. Losing the 180 euros might be better in such a case.
