So after seeing the specs for the new 8200 travelmate I have to say I'm really tempted. We'll see how it pans out when the travelmate actually manages to be available in the US, however...
Does anyone know how Acer's warranties are worldwide? While I live in the US and spend most of my time here, I am from the UK and do sometimes spend quite a bit of time there, so being able to use the notebook in the UK (and not worry about warranty) would be really nice.

Straight off of Acer US site
One-year parts and labor limited warranty* with concurrent International Traveler’s Warranty**
*For a free copy of the standard limited warranty end-users should see a reseller where Acer products are sold or write to Acer America Corporation, Warranty Department, P.O. Box 6137, Temple, TX 76503. TFT displays commonly exhibit a small number of discolored dots, so-called “nonconforming pixels.” This phenomenon is a limitation of TFT LCD technology, not a product defect and, as such, is not covered by the limited warranty or by the upgrade programs.
**Valid only in countries where Acer has an authorized repair facility. For a list of those countries go to http://global.acer.com/support/itw.htm. or call 800-816-2237. Services and response times may vary in countries outside the U.S. and Canada.

Speaking of Acer warranties, I'm curious about their 3 year extended with accidental damage. On the Acer website, the 2 year extended goes for $124 and the 3 year with the stupidity clause is $280. But at retailers it seems that the 2 year goes for much less--as low as $60, whereas the 3 year can be had for $125 or so. Yet, on none of the sites other than Acer does the three year say that "Total coverage" means accidental damage.
I plan to call Acer, but wonder if anyone here has had experience with this.
Thanks!
