Hi... I've got a weired problem with the wifi signal strength...
All was fine until today. I'm connecting to the internet through WiFi in school, but today my signal strength suddenly falls to "poor" status...

But the strange thing is: when I delete the configuration for the network and detect the wireless networks again... the signal is very good. But as soon as I connect, the signal falls again.

I tried reinstalling the drivers and nothing helped...

    I'm using: Acer Aspire 5720G with Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG and Vista x64

try updating your driver for the current version, also make sure that your wifi adapters power mode in powermanagement/advance settings is set to max performance any power saving mode willmplay havoc with your connection,i did this and havent had a single problem since.hope this helps

Possibly something with the router at your school.

Remember, your computer can do nothing if the router has a problem.

I'm having problems with wi-fi on my brand new Acer 5920G - it doesn't connect at all. Ive tried at home where I use a WEP encryption, and in several public places with open wi-fi. The laptop just doesn't connect. It connects fine with the LAN cable.

It tries to connect but then says there is "limited connectivity." And it never connects and status says I have a local access only ("solo acceso local"), which I suppose means something to the effect that it connectt to the local network but cannot get out on the internet. However, it doesn't connect to any network and it can't find the router (at least not by pinging for it).

I first thought it was a Vista problem, but I tested a Toshiba A200 at home before I decided on the Acer, and the Toshiba connected perfectly.

I'm beginning to think there's a problem with the radio in this particular machine.

    Has anyone experienced this??

Do you have any security enabled? Did you check wireless switch that ir turned ON ? Do you have MAC filtering on router and laptop MAC is not entered yet?

Since you have Vista afaik after unsuccessfull connect a panel should appear with suggestion to "repair" situation. Usually you see a report that something is turned off and if you click "repair", it should work. Well, at least in most cases.

Hello, as for security, Windows Firewall and Symantec firewall was enabled; I tried to disable both firewalls just in case, well I actually uninstalled the Norton/Symantec package (I'd rather use other protection measures). But it had no effect.

There's no router filtering on Mac addresses. The "repair" function in Vista doesn't do any good for me; it suggests that there is a problem with the router or the encryption and wonders if I have typed the security code correctly. I've typed in the key over and over again, so it's not that, for sure.

I've had no problems with other computers (and there have been quite many) connecting to my network in DHCP mode. I also tested the Acer 5920in two public spaces where they offer free internet, but nothing. I opened up my network at home (ie, got rid of the encryption), but nothing.

Then I lost patience and reckoned something would be wrong with the wi-fi radio in the computer, so I took it back to the shop. There it connected without a problem to an unencrypted network.

    Now the confusion is total...

I tried to reboot the router at home (obviously this is something you can't do if you are in a public place...), but to no avail. It was not possible to connect.

I went down to the shop today, and got a replacement. But it doesn't connect either. So, there's no Acer 5920G for me, I'm handing it in, not sure what to buy now...

Some silly question, but ... which router you have?

How is configured? Sometime ago I set our router to G-only and some older caomputers with A/B could't connect.

So, check your router and card that can connect with same protocol (ie. there is no forced mode, A-only, B-only ... set both to mixed).

    b.

EDIT: deleted ... found that 4695 AGN card support B too.
Try this: right click on my computer, select Manage. Than on right side choose Network adapters, select wireless card. Double click, select Advanced tab and last is Wireless mode. Check what is selected -- I have 6 - 802.11 a/b/g and with that setting work OK.

    Fingers crossed :)

I'm not sure what you mean by this (??).

I have a Comtrend router, the model is CT535. According to the wi-fi detection software, it's on "b."

The router in the shop was an old one, much older than mine, and the laptop connected perfectly there.

I'd like that you check in which wireless mode your card operate. Your router is set to B, so your card must be enabled for B-only or for mixed. If its enabled for anything else you cant connect to such network.

Check attached image -- anything marked green is OK.

BTW, switch router to G or mixed if supports that (mixed = a/g, b/g or a/b/g).

AH, thanks, I get it. I checked and in the card operates in mixed mode (a/b/g). Will check the router and see what I can do with it.

    Thanks!

is the mac fillter switched on in the router ?
what channel is the router set too and the laptop.?
but if your friends laptop works and yours works at the shop it must be a security setting in the router and your laptop.

well I don't know. I returned the laptop to shop and it was refunded.

The channel is to "3," but I don't know where to find the equivalent in the computer.
