    Hi first time.......

    i have a acer aspire 1640 i have had to get a new hard drive but when i go to put windows xp home on it will not let me do a clean install?????

    Hi....
    i took the old hard drive out put the ntfs preformated new hard drive in .
    went into bios changed the boot sequence.....
    put the xp oem disk in ...
    boot.
    light on the drive comes on then off nothing happens after that!

    Is the Windows XP being read at all? If it is, the drive should be making a noise. Also, are you sure the new hard disk is being detected by the computer. You should be able to check this in the BIOS.

    the drive comes on and there is a noise...
    the hard drive works i have had it on my desktop and it is fine....
    how do you check in bios if it sees the drive?
