I flashed the BIOS using the windows software beyond my better judgement and the install crashed. I waited 30 minutes and the system never started to flash again. I have tried a few ideas to get the BIOS to restore. I tried the FN-ESC method and the usb-Floppy tries to install the system but i am still not able to get the OLD BIOS restore.

I have the BIOS backed up on the systems hard drive but I am gonna have to remove the drive and get the backup BIOS and try to install it on the recovery disc. What are some ways to restore the BIOS the system is also out of warrenty and I payed acer support to tell me that are not able to help me.

Anyone have any ideas. I like to fix the laptop before I have to pay to replace it and be out of the money I have spent on it.

You have Phoenix BIOS? Check this thread, although it's for another model it might help you with yours. If you decide to try it use the smallest usb you can find out - 512MB or less. Also keep in mind that the files listed are for another model - I have no idea if your laptop bios use the same one, you need to check that too.

I had trouble flashing my TravelMate 6592. The flash software stopped in the middle, OS froze, waited long, nothing happened. After reboot the computer was dead. I tried many rescue operations, blind flashing, USB stick flashing but none worked. I wonder if it was because the flash stopped in the middle?

Anyhow, I ended up sending it back and they repaired it on warranty (replaced the motherboard I think ... I wondered why they did not just replace the BIOS). I spoke with them on the phone, and told them that it was their application that crashed in the middle of the update. I was an AC power and battery was full. First I thought they would charge me, but they just said send it in. It took about 1.5 weeks without a notebook but it was a free repair. (Finland).

I have not attempted BIOS update on Acer systems since :)

My system is out of warrenty is the problem. I have never had much help from acer support. I purchased another system and sent it in to be service and they sent the system back with a new problem. The keyboard would strafe letters across the screen. It took me 3 service returns to get the issue fixed and all they did was replace the faulty keyboard they returned to me.

I have tried to contact them again and they pointed me into the customer service again. I know I had damaged a system before and the manufacturer was able to help me but the systemboard only lasts a year. Is there any other suggestions I purchased the laptop second hand so there is no return and I am sure crashing a BIOS install will void any warrenty.
