You can control the amount of memory the ATI xpress 1100 graphics uses in the BIOS (press f2 at the POST screen first screen that says "acer).
Also remember the xpress 1100 is an integrated card the only way it can get graphics memory is to take it from RAM itself as integrated cards don't have and memory built into them. So the fact that windows tells you you don't have the full 1Gb, this is why integrated graphics reserving ram for itself.

Go into the BIOS as I told you and set the memory to what you need.

CMOS is a small flat battery on the main board that allows the bios to hold the date, time, and system setup parameters. I don't see why anyone would tell you to do anything with it as CMOS batteries in acer notebooks are often soldered onto the mainboard.

I see you have one of the newer xpress 1100s that has 256MB of shared memory and 256MB of dedicated video memory.
Integrated graphics memory is usually controlled from inside the bios go in there and have a look and adjust the memory in use and see if it makes a difference.

I don't know much about the dedicated + shared Xpress 1100s I know with mine I can carry the memory usage all the way down to I think 32mb which would mean I would only have 32mb of video memory but you have dedicated ram on your card and I don't. Acer seems to have select aspire 5050s with these newer xpress 1100s in them because in my searches the majority of the 5050s all have integrated Xpress 1100s like mine. I only found 1 which is like yours that has dedicated + shared memory, I wish mine was like yours but oh well.

I guess what you can do is a little experimentation turn the memory to different values and see how the game reacts thats all I can think of to try. :)
